whoo! is it in hot in here?
yeah I can understand about the strings...what if you tried them at 7 bit? but they got cleared up back to natural around 2:15 for a sec...and back down
This is really nice
I thought it was a growing genre but just never really caught on in the states (except for adding a phat beat to all the other genres, especially the bland contemporary alternative to make it "hip")
Goldfrapp is nice...I like both of their albums because theyre so different from each other and both good.
Remember Urchin? Still one of my faves

sorry to sound if im trying to take over:) I love this stuff and liking making it too....kind of a DJ Krush vs. Amon Tobin kind of thing

While I think your idea of a morphing bitrate would sound very cool and amazing, I don't feel it would fit the song itself. Both the drums and vocalsound is quite dirty, and the way the strings are used now is for "beauty-purposes".

Actually, this piece has gone through many many changes, pulling of the insain amount of layers I had made in my initial creative process. In this process, which is quite normal in my work with music, I have to choose not to include ideas which sounds absolutly SUPER, but somehow they didn't support the song and melody, actual distracted it at times. That's the hard part of producing, in my world.

Nice track! Wouldn't "dirty up" the strings as that would wash out the dirty percussion, maybe just a tad of reverb on them to handle the sudden releases in some parts ... but this is just a small quibble, me likes :)

By saying "sudden releases" do you mean that the strings releases sounds unnaturel in places, or do you think that things like fx the sudden stop in the end of first refrain is too much?

DXL: Cool, glad you digged it :)

I just loved it. And while drinking some great Catalunyan red wine in my studio, I just HAD to put it through my mastering rig. Just for the hell of it.

Here's a mastered version (demo)

If you like it, Thalamus, I wanna do the same process it to a non compressed (non 126kbps mp3) version of the song... !!!
And by the way, isn't she singing 'simply as your rivers flow' isntead of 'river flows'.

Hi twincat,

That's so cool that you took your time to master the song. While I really like what you did for the top end, I think the bottom is a bit "squased", mostly becourse of the deep kick in the refrain.

And yes, the title is hereby changed.

Fantastic stuff. The dirty drums and vox against the clean strings really work well for me.

Very inspiring.

Hi again,

This song was on a program in the danish national radio

So...

Did a new mix (focused on the bass register), whole new string arrangement, fixed the drums, vocal more wide... All in all, alot of your suggested approvements. I owe you alot.

After 3 pages by the time I get to post...I generally think it`s all been said.
But I have to say this one does it for me!
Most of your songs are different from my usual tastes.
Your talent no less I have noted from the first time I heard one of your tunes.

This one is I feel I can comment on.
Not a negative thought accured to me...it`s all good! :)
No one gets to the depths of their soul in lyrics like you do.I`ve always been aware of your lyrics...and I usually don`t hear them right off in most songs generally.
Your lyrics seem to make me listen to them.

Very nice! A little massive attack influence there?
Cheers.............................................

annode: Your comments towards lyrics goes straight to the author, which no doubt are flattered. I know that she writes from within her soul.

jroditis: Influence? Hmm, it's hard not to get influenced by someone. I, as a producer, havn't heard that much massive attack, but I think that its more the sound (radiolike vocals, dusty beats), that reminds you of massive. However, to me, all that makes sence is that the actual melody has some nice surroundings. Said in another way, in rock music, the same guitarchords and sounds are used again and again. All that matters is: Does this sound nice? Does it have an effect on me? Do I like what I hear? In my opinion, music is a language that speak feelings, not expressions. If someone tell you something you allready knew, in a new way, new doors are opening to you, if your heart is open...

Very good work!
I do not produce trip hop today, and I do not listen to it - tired. too much well produced shit released.
But that one piece - were worth.
Especialy clear strings - U got sound of strings I couldn`t get form Miroslav and Siedlachek.. so... I NEED VIENNA! :))))))))

But - there is some critical notices

Drums! Drums, man.. one of drum textures are weak and have dead sounding:
at the beginning of a track there is a liced loop, yea? So - DEFINENTLY take it off and search WHOLE new kit for it. that one sucks. Rhytmical part it plays - is good, but it`s sounding SUCKS.
Not nor a juicy lo-fi sounding, nor a kickass fresh... dead sound of a drumloop

Drums on a "b" parts (for example from 2-nd minute to the silence) are good enough. Not brilliant, but sounds fresh and deep enough to do their things.
Noticed, U didn`t accented hi hats... but it`s OK. Sound enough without their active work.

Strings could be a bit quiter some where... but it`s not so improtant - they sound good enough. I don`t have a feel they re unnatural - good arrange!

Definently - that trip-hop piece is good one!
U know, Trip-Hop have too much professional pieces without freshness and soul today... Ur piece have them both... so - keeep it!!!! And there is a room to grow up furter! So - U made daamn lucky decision where to use Ur potencial :)
hooooooooo hooooooo hooooooo
here comes Doctor Baoooooooo

Very nice!

I vote in favour of the clean strings! And maybe up the vocals a little during the 'verse' sections.

If I had to say anything, siting here listening to them on a pair of ESL electrostatics, the bass is just too muddy down there during the verse bits, have you tried putting a compressor on it and side-chaining it to the kik?

Just a thought, but a superb piece!

:D :D :D
