I've made a similar post in Rob Papen already so apologies for duplicating but I think my issue is with Cubase and not Predator.
I want to use vocoder in CS4, my understanding is basic but I think it should go like this :-
I have a pad sound on channel 1 (the carrier)
A vocal sample on channel 2 (the modulator)
I'm struggling to route these two signals to a vocoder in CS4.
I've tried setting up an empty instrument channel and having the vocoder as an insert and trying to route channels 1 & 2 into that, I can't find a way of doing that in Cubase though.
I have done this before when I used to use FL, and it was very straightforward there. I'm trying to use the vocoder to create some harmonies on an existing vocal sample.
I've tried using TAL, CM and PredatorFX as a vocoder.
Any help appreciated.

In case you don't know the QUadChannel Trick:
- Create a Quad Channel (Audio, Group, FX - in your case Group Maybe)
- Now to the Device Pannel and to the Group Tap, there should be an empty QuadGroup
- Right click on this one, and add a Stereo Group, and another Stereo Group called LS and RS
- Now this group is set up.
In the Group itself, you can now load an insert plugin. If you route your carrier signal to L/R, and your signal to be vocoded to LS/RS, this should be working. At least it does with most sidechain plugins I'm using (Slim Slow Slider and Chunkware being to of them).
Keep in mind though, this doesn't work with VSTi channels. Only Audio and Groups.
Alternately, you can use the MIDI from the PAD sound and trigger TAL Vocover with that one. Simply switch modes in TAL, route the Output of your MIDI Channel to TAL Vocoder, being in the insert of your vocal sample. No need for sidechain features.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by Quad Channels but i'll have a look round Cubase and see if I can figure it out.
It's possible that I have something configured incorrectly as whichever Vocoder I use Cubase doesn't seem to see it on another channel if I look at the midi outputs.

Right Mouseclick: Audio Channel, then in the dropdown choose "Quad Channel".
The rest goes as with my small description above.
And as long as the VST plugin was loaded, it should show up in the MIDI outputs. Much like as you'd route your MIDI output to a VSTi, but it's a VST plugin instead. At least that's for me in SX3.

I guess. Unless Studio 4 was cut of all the surround channels, then you're kind of screwed - cause I guess there lies the problem.
Still you should be able to MIDI trigger TAL as described.
Just use it as insert, change the input mode (right top button on the GUI) and it should show up in the MIDI access section. Just route your MIDI output there, and the carrier signal is your MIDI keyboard now.
And this should be HOST independent.

I've checked and CS4 DOESN'T have surround support. I should have known that from the start but I didn't connect the wording quad channel to surround anyway. My fault! 
What i've noticed is that the audio channel allows me to route the output to the vocoder, whichever one i'm using on another channel. I cannot seem to find a way of routing a midi or instrument into the vocoder channel. Very strange for something so apparently simple.

Sorry for the screensize (1280x780 or something), but I run a fairly large screensize these days. Oh and my SX3 is in German, but this shouldn't matter since ALL Cubase versions haven't changed in terms of MIDI routing for decades.

It's apparent to me that Cubase 4 is set up quite differently than SX (at least Studio 4 is). I dont have the Quadro option anywhere at all. I can get the vocoder to work as you described in your pictures above but it still doesn't allow me to use a VST synth sound as the carrier, only the inbuilt vocoder waves. Strangely if I set up CM Vocoder or MDA vocoder exactly the same as the TAL vocoder the midi channel refuses to see it as an output option.
Thanks again for your time but I think i'm going to leave this for now, it's driving me nuts!

Well if you can't route an audio signal (from a Synth or so) to TAL as carrier, then no wonder it's not working. If Studio4 is castrated of Quad Channels, you're pretty much stuck.
Can't help with CM and the MDA Vocoder to be honest, BUT I remember the MDA one using two plugins. One for carrier, one for the Modulator. Dunno how that is with the CM Version.
You just have to try it. OR... try the same as with the QUAD group, but in Stereo, works the same (make a stereo group channel, add two mono channels to that one as sub, and then route again). Works with the SlimSlowSlider Mono Compressor in Sidechain mode, too. And should also work in CS4 (since it's not a Quad channel)
This is all I can tell you - you have to try for yourself.

The Cubase vocoder is in the CUBASE 4 INSTALL DISC!
Why?
You have to install the program itself then manually copy over all the older plug ins.
Point...less.

Yep, that's where I found the info about the part of Cubase I was looking for not being installed with Cubase but in a folder on the install disc.
