If you're into Jarre, Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and that kind of old synth music, give this a listen (it really reminds me of stuff I used to do back in the mid-1980s...ergo, neo-retro Emdot):

RexNem2 5:39, about 6MB (VBR mp3)

[It has a fairly slow fade-in so watch your volume]

This is part of a new project I'm working on that will probably take forever: a podcast of an unfinished sci-fi novel I'm writing called Rex Nemorensis. I want to do a full reading of the novel, but do it as if it were a dramatization. It'll have the full narrative, but all the dialog will be voice acted like a radio show with music and sound FX. I'd really, really like to find someone to do graphic novel style illustrations to run throughout the podcast (still pictures but with camera movement, kind of like they do with photos in documentaries)...Ambitious? Me? Not sure the project will ever be done, but it's nice to think about.

The sequenced part is from AlgoMusic's Atomic using its built-in synth. It's actually one of the factory presets but it sounds so much like one of my old JX-3P sequences that I had to use it. All the rest of the track is what I used to have in my mind but didn't have the gear to do.

This is one of 3 songs I've got started for the project. Here's the VSTi list used (which is going to be fairly consistent throughout the project):

AlgoMusic/BK SynthLab's Atomic
GMedia's Virtual String Machine
Rob Papen's Albino3 (x2)
AlgoMusic's M42
GMedia's Oddity
HG Fortune's STS-21 Pro
HG Fortune's ProtoPlasm Pro
HG Fortune's STS-24 Pro

Very nice, smooth and expressive, I love it!
Already heard about Vangelis (BladeRunner in this case) :D ?

Hi Em

No SSP :uhuhuh:

No, really this is good. Very Emdot. I wonder at the initial Arp as that seems a little thin for you but the brass-like lead/pad is wonderful. I was disappointed when it was finished.

:)

Not to worry, Mr. Benedict! Castor II is in RexNem1 but that song's not nearly finished yet. I'm sure other SSP instruments will make appearances as well. :tu:

Thanks, Art!

The brassy lead comes from Oddity and a preset that's very close to the preset called Balderunner (which is featured in RexNem1). Oddity's great for synth leads.

Oh...eventually I'll be asking for some help from people to do some of the voice readings (I'm going to do the narration and some of the characters, but I'd really like some different people doing other characters)...and I'll probably call for some soundtrack submissions from people here as well.

I've only written about 56 pages of the novel this will be part of, but that might be 1/4 of its final length, so this'll take some time.

A floating, space-traveling track. Tonal ear candy. Very easy on the nerves. I can definitely see this in context of a sci-fi novel.
Nice work, emdot.

nice one em. reminds me of vintage NOVA or similar PBS sound tracks...

Thanks!

I always did want to do PBS documentary music, actually.

Whats that arp coming from???
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Very nice. It must have taken...

Ha! You don't catch me out twice
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

The Arp is actually a sequencer: Atomic by AlgoMusic & BK Synthlab. It's absolutely brilliant! A total inspiration. You can use its sequencer to drive other software instruments, and even external MIDI keyboards, but I really like the built-in synth and FX so I haven't really bothered pumping it out to other things.

:D But I almost did!

Really nice...my kind of music..goes in the 'keeper' folder

Good use of Atomic as well. I have used it on hardware synths such as my Chimera Synthesis BC16, but the synth inside it is quite nice.

Good ending too.

MORE!!!!!
