This paragraph perfectly describes why Twin slipped past me. I had not a single bad thing to say about it, in fact, it did sound good... but the day after a demo I had no impetus what so ever to buy it.kritikon wrote: To me, it seem like Twin is more of a direct competitor to things like Albino and that Linplug thingummy...Alpha? In that case - where's the point of difference? I like synths, I especially still like the old analogues that have character. I also like unusual and character digitals, such as Wavestations and fantastical samplers such as ShortCircuit. I buy both. But somehow Twin fell between the cracks. It doesn't compete with analogue character, and it doesn't sem to have digital character. Is that what users use it for - the bread and butter stuff? I just can't see where I'd use it. If I want big lush pads, I'll use impOSCar or layer up bsome Wavestation sounds. If I want spikey basses and leads, I'll use impOSCar or my old 202 or MS20. If I want just weird sounds I'll fire up a sampler and mangle something beyond recognition. If I want just plain old middle-of-the-road sounds I'll use FreeAlpha, a Juno or two etc. Where would Twin fit in?

FabFilter Twin 2 recreating an acoustic piano (reverb is courtesy of Bootsie, epicverb FTW!)
.. sure, it ain't that realistic but remember, this a 3 oscillator, dual filter synth (well, it has two more at the delay that could basically be used as monophonic filters as well). Try doing this with any other "simple" VA.
Cheers!

It is a fantastic synth.

Oh my god, i can't wait! Twin is my favourite synth - and with ringmod, holy smokes.
Can anyone in the know tell us if the third oscillator is just for noise, or if you can select a regular waveform as well?

I hope this thing could do FM. Otherwise, they would have to give me quite an attractive upgrade price for me to fall into their trap again.
Ring modulation won't be enough...frequency modulation! I love FM!

yes, the 3rd functions as a regular oscillator. All 3 can be sqr/saw/tri/sin/noise.Plug wrote:Oh my god, i can't wait! Twin is my favourite synth - and with ringmod, holy smokes.

bmanic that patch is amazing!
and to all the haters and whiners, if you already have 30 synths you already love, why are you crapping this thread up? go play with them! obviously you don't like the fabfilter sound or click with what you use is what you see.. that's cool but do you need to write an essay on how unimpressed you are???

If you pay close attention to the video you will see his preset appears at the top of the list, under the 'Best Of' category -> Acoustic Piano - BM.blortblort wrote:. . . I *do* hope you win, bmanic! (and I hope that one is included in the factory presets)

Well, at least that one guy has to. He's obsessed about complaining ("commenting") about Fabfilter filters. Pretty much every thread related to this company and the same guy comes along with his mission.lococarlos wrote:bmanic that patch is amazing!

It won't take that long to get a long reply to this, repeating the same story again and again, so get the popcorn ready
Moving on...
bManic pretty much owned the whole patch design scene this time, that is simply amazing work. Right now a handful of 'knowledgeable' synth peeps are arguing it's a hoax after hearing that mp3
The new UI on the synth is equally great. It's really well thought out and pretty much avoids all the usual pitfalls related to these kind of UIs (normally you'll spend half the time clicking things open and closed, managing the interface instead of working).
Combined with the sound, this synth is a winner. Even if that one guy doesn't like the filters
Now available with added Inherently Suspect Justification!

Anybody remember how much it was to upgrade from Volcano, to Volcano 2 when it was first released?
