I was listening to a bunch of my older stuff the other day, and one of the tunes from 2004 really caught my ear. I remember that when I'd first posted it, Gordon had remarked on the repetitive drums (which they were). Also, it was one of my few tunes that used an actual hardware synth in it (my old microQ).

I have Komplexer these days, but I'd despaired of ever redoing this, because it used different wavetables than the microQ did. Then a couple weeks ago, someone posted a link for Komplexer wavetables- lo and behold, the original mQ tables were included :D
I still had the original MIDI files, and I had the dump from the MQ of the bank (and specifically, one patch I made with it that might be my favorite synth patch I've ever done). And, I have Maschine

Remake time!!! :)

Dancing Shoes (a slight return)

2 x Absynth
2 x Reaktor
Komplexer
Maschine
Spektral Delay

The drums are still boring  (but it's a good boring  ), and the arrangement's basically the same, but it's more in your face. The original drums were poppy and pushing the beat (MicroTonic), while these are more dark and manana, dude... :?
And yes, Komplexer with the original wavetables can sound very close to a microQ.

Comments or your sister's phone number are more than welcome. And please- no Jenny; she doesn't have that number anymore

This is great! The are some really expressive sounds in here. I really like the one that sounds like guitar feedback. Really stunning stuff.

That's Komplexer- it's the mQ patch I was speaking about. :)

It sounds kind of sitarish at low velocities, and high velocities will bring in an oscillator pitched a fifth higher. The modwheel brings in comb filter resonance to give it some depth, and aftertouch brings in just a touch of vibrato, and also goes to the global pitch.

Thanks for listening, sir  :D

hey eric - great remake!
that komplexer patch sounds very cool.
have you attempted a similar sound in massive?

Post

Thanks, Gary  :D

Yeah- I've tried doing it in Massive. I can get pretty close but not quite there, due to the differences in the wavetables. I should really work on it though- the feedback routing and frequency shifter in Massive should be able to pick up the difference.

The one synth besides Komplexer and the mQ/Q that comes really close so far is Tera; I've got a Tera patch that comes really close. And, I'm looking forward to when Largo comes out :hyper:

For an example of the Tera patch- the "guitar" in this is Tera...

This is brilliant. One of the best pieces I've heard in this forum. Great blend of ambient sounds and the drums are very cool. All the varying elements kept my attention throughout.

Truly nice work

Eric, this is great! I also agree that the Komplexer patch is *beautiful*!

I also got those wavetables btw! :D

Ah- comments :)

I'm planning on putting a Komplexer bank up sometime soon- the patch will be in it.

Thanks for listening  :D
