So who is going to be the first person to do the fake "it's up right now" post? Those are my favorite KVR posts. Even better than the incessant "Release it now!" posts.

I'll let others do the comparison once it's released. I look forward to the comparisons :)

No, but it will have a mono version which takes less cpu. Like people have already said you can route a dual mono version in your host. I have kept the controls minimal so as not to clutter things. Dual mono is not good for your stereo image, so the only time you really want to use it would be for times when you don't have reverb being used for aural cues to position sound sources in the mix.

I have no idea yet, I've not researched into the physics of magnetic field saturation caused by thin films of iron oxide, not (edit: or) the ac biasing used in tape recording. Once I have I'll let you know if I can model it. Hopefull it will be similar enough in modeling terms to core saturation of inductors / transformers, so, along with some decent tube models, I'll be able to start tackling more vintage gear with the same level of fidelity as solid state stuff.

Sorry for missing that. No there won't be dual mono.

Also, unless waves is doing something monmentally stupid, the stereo field shouldn't be narrowed. It would take extra work in digital to make the left and right signal path different, so I doubt very much they would do that deliberately when the original hardware does everything possible to keep the left and right signal paths identical to preserve the stereo image.

Actually, dual mono gives the impression of "livening up" or "opening up" the stereo field, compared to hard core stereo link. Most mastering engineers I know prefer using dual mono, or some kind of averaging between left/right, with their compressors. I'm no different. I usually use dual mono on almost everything. Only if there is a song that has some ridiculously silly bass information or spikes hard panned, then you cannot simply use dual mono as the stereo image will tilt too much.

Anyhow, as you provide a mono version of the plugin, I see no problem whatsoever. Also, because you have an open side chain, it is possible to variable linking oneself, at least in modular hosts it's easy. Heck, I can even do look a head myself now that you've provided a side chain! :D

Cheers!

Thanks for the info on that. I'll check into it in detail when I have some more time, but for now I want to keep it so that it's difficult to make a bad setting by mistake by adding too much functionality.

I'm glad you are cool with doing that, it's easy to add all these features, but I want to keep The Glue dedicated and stipped down like the original. I like that you have thought about how to get around the limitations since it opens up a whole different mindset about what is possible with sidechain processing without cluttering the compressor itself. One thing I was tempted to add but didn't was a low pass filter for the sidechain signal, but since you can already do this with the external sidechain I left it out.

very cool, I like the ethos you've got going for this. flexible because it's simple and functional. the demos i've heard sound good, it wouldn't surprise me if it replaces my current compression weaponry. i do the dual mono thing bmanic describes, too. it would be a nice feature to have buried in a little switch somewhere at some point, but i'm used to setting up two compressors anyway so it's not a big deal.

i want to play with it!

edit: did you also do the compressor in guru? i had been using guru for a few days before i played around with the effects in it. i was like "aww how cute, effects built into the drum machine." couple of minutes later, "dude, what the hell" because i totally was not prepared for that.
