tumface wrote:edit: did you also do the compressor in guru? i had been using guru for a few days before i played around with the effects in it. i was like "aww how cute, effects built into the drum machine." couple of minutes later, "dude, what the hell" because i totally was not prepared for that.
Yep, I did all the effects in Guru. The compressor is a regular digital feed forward design, the same sort of thing that every man and his dog does, but I did add a few other nice features like a hilbert transform detector which can give some nice results on the attacks. I am most pleased with the freezer effect, and the filter built into every pad, which are very efficient, and can drive and self oscillate.

I have been beta testing 'The Glue' for the last year or so.

There are a few things that really stand out for me. The sub cut on the sidechain is really good for mastering. It enables you to tune the pump of the compressor. The mix knob is a simple way of doing parallel compression (adding a layer of over-compressed signal to a dry signal).

The preset values on each knob have been very well chosen and tuned. I never find myself wanting more values for attack, decay... The compressor seems to have a broader range of use per setting. A kind of intelligence. Maybe it's the analogueness of it. this all makes it very fast to use.

I will use it on most channels of a 50 tracks mix with no stress on my CPU. It's very efficient. I thought it was one of the most efficient compressors, then a few months ago Andy said he had a beta update that halved the CPU usage. I didn't really notice. 8) nice.

The only compressors I use now is PSP Mixpressor, a bit of rough rider and the native once in Live and Logic, so I'm looking forward to getting a second commercial one. As I've heard from the demos the Glue can really add some boost and presence.

Also been using the Cytomic Glue compressor for a while now. I use it on every channel.

Seems like it is very popular among people who do electronica/techno stuff, but was it beta-tested by RAWKXORZ? :D

It kinda happened like that since Deadmau5 was using it and he would do a remix with someone and they would want it, and so on and so on. It's nice that they all loved the sound of the compressor and I have managed to reign it in a bit now and just have a core crew. I really have to keep numbers down of alpha/beta testers since I can only manage to talk to and take feedback from a limited number of people.

Once it's for sale I hope that I will have time to establish contacts with a broader cross section of the music community, since The Glue is good for loads of different styles.
