yeah that seems like a good deal of extra work that you shouldn't have to do, not my cup of tea. In Reaktor I have to convert everything to a .tga to have transparency, I hope at some point they will provide a .png option as its a smaller file size and much easier for me to catagorize, right now I have to carry two files of exports for every image which is real pain in the ass. Knobman has been wonderful as I can load the strip as an image and simple export both. I imagine that you need a photo editor to get all those graphics into a file correctly which will lead to a fustrating trail & error journey for every graphic. Make sure you set up a good grib in the photo editor should help to short cut problems. Good luck.

ps: if you still want help me just give me the knob images without the shadows and the knob's shadows without the knob itself.. if you can, indeed.. i don't pay you and this is may take a lot of time.. if you don't want i undestand you..

mmmm.. i mind that you are really close to the goal!
in the image i posted the shadow in the mask are in black.. the mask has no shadows.. only BLACK for the drown parts and WHITE for the trasparent parts.. =)

Would you consider posting your knob file for your toggle so that we can learn how you made it? I don't want to seem like a leech, but I've learned the most from other .knob postings; I've learned a lot from Leslie's in particular. But there's a look to this that I can't come close to creating. If not, I understand; this is a signature piece!

My box account is cancelled so no I can not, I don't plan on opening another one. I will use the Reaktor Forum for this from now on if I post. This allows me to share it the way that I would like.

The switch itself is made in Silo, Blender and Photoshop so there wouldn't be much to glean from it for knobman. I used Knobman in a limited function with this one, mostly for resizing and getting individual frames since it allowed me to short cut some editing in Photoshop I find tedious. The .png image is posted in the Knob request thread started by MetalSir.

You know, just saying that much is a lesson in itself. I guess another piece of wisdom I'm learning is: if it is completely convincingly 3D, then it's more probable it was born in a 3D program than by amazing faking ability in a 2D one. (And I'm not minimizing the skill required to do beautiful work in a 3D one by saying so!)

Hey, I hope this isn't a blindingly stupid question - I've had a search through and can't find an answer, but that could be down to my searching skills rather than the actual lack of an answer!

I can't seem to get the frame-count to stick at anything other than 31. I'm trying for smoother animation than that, but if I set the count to 61 (or 91, or 131, or whatever) it registers in the dialog, but then still only renders 31.

Any ideas?

Are you clicking the 'Set' button after changing anything on that tab?

I'm forever making changes without clicking Set then wonder for a few seconds why nothings actually changed... :)

guys, i have a question:
what do i have to take care for/look out for when looking for fonts on the net especially for numbers (readouts, values, etc), so that, when automated, the position of the font doesn't move? right now i have a lot of fonts which do look perfect, but change their position according to the changed value, which makes the value look quite "jumpy" when the knob is moved ...

so:
are the fonts that do work without this "jumpy" movement called in a special way?
i.e., if i want small fonts that work without antialiasing, i look for "pixel fonts" ... is there a kind of a "label" that the fonts that don't move, too?

You just need a font where all numbers are the same width, or failing that, draw them character by character manually. Many properly designed otherwise variable-width fonts have fixed-width digits, 'cos you also need that to line up numbers in tables (say financial data) and whatever. Of the basic Windows fonts for example I think Georgia is pretty much the only one that doesn't have those as it goes to the old-school design with different height/alignment for different digits instead...

That said, for variable-width digits, just figure out how wide the widest of them is, and plot them individually (say, using the standard text-drawing function of your choice with a bounding box around the space allocated for the particular digit. Not sure if it's possible to do that if you want to burn the fonts into a knob though, but drawing text on the fly isn't that hard unless you need some fancy shading.
