I thought there was no posting in this thread now until it's released?

like that was going to work !
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

If we don't distract Andy we'll get it sooner... as in hopefully not the last day of Q1. :hihi:

Seriously no more posting ... starting ... now... no wait... now.

You know, I was just kidding... carry on! ;)

Andy please say the release is closer to day(s) instead of weeks.
For the past few weeks the first thing that I've been doing when I wake up is check to see if The Glue is released!

The GUI sorta reminds me of the SSL G Master Buss Compressor featured in the Waves SSL plug-in set.

May not be a direct emulation, but I hope it works a similar sort of magic! It's gonna be quite a bargain in any case!

The Glue is in fact a direct emulation of an SSL Buss Compressor so the similar appearance is not accidental.

Can someone clarify to me what 'makeup' and 'range' are? ive never came across them on compressors ive used in the past.

Thanks.

Glue looks much better and clearer I think.

Makeup is standard term for the gain applied after compression to bring the average level back to where it was. Often those are labeled "output" or simply "gain" but most compressors have one.

As for range, you have to ask andy or someone with a beta for that, but I can make a guess: in a real hardware compressors, once the input level has gone far enough above the threshold the gain reduction can get capped because of limited dynamic range (as in signals clip internally or whatever). So I'd guess it affects either the maximum level above threshold after which no further compression happens, or the maximum gain reduction. Since the label on the screenshot is "-40" with half-range, I'd guess it's the maximum gain reduction.

Actually according to the developer himself, it's...
a mix of the E-series and G-Series buss compressor
However more oriented towards the G-Series one.

Gotcha! It's an SSL Buss Compressor emulation like the Waves one, hency why they look similar. Hold on, wait...what did I say that was inaccurate? :? :P

Well I think the major confusion on both ends are:
"If the Waves is an SSL Clone, so is The Glue, why will the prices be that different?!"

Well for one - Waves paid a ton to use the name SSL alongside, and the GUI really looks like the bus comp on the black consoles. TheGlue is (if I remember correctly from the conversations) "inspired by" but "heavily tweaked" compared to the original one, with the bonus of having a similar sound to the E-Series.

Now it's up to you if you go Waves and pay the brandname with it, or go for a small firm with a very competitive price. The only thing that might cause some rukus might be the GUI, but... TAL Dub1 also looked like a SSL Bus Comp, and nobody cared. A lot of GUI's are inspired by larger consoles or old hardware modules. And if it's working, why change that concept? Only ROLAND is mostly on the roll in terms of "you're not allowed to use our skin design".

It's not "the" hardware, it's still bits and bytes. The GUI might not be that important, but it sure helps in terms of a recognition value, and maybe even for a placebo effect.

Personally I don't care, as long as it's doing it's thing. And if it's working "like" a SSL console comp, heck even better in terms of native tools and Waves loses it's monopolism, too.

Now we only have to wait for it's release.
