Oatmeal is definitely the way to go now.
And when I saw the new skin by Limeflavour, I drooled!

I also love Xhip although it's not totally finished yet.

SQ8L isn't mentioned as often as the others but i find there warmth quality to the sound of that synth. Maybe i just got the impression from the presets?...

I always hear people mention ZebraCM and GenesisCM but never a mention of AstralisCM.
It's excellent.
And +1 for AM Freehand.

You don't need a $500 plugin to not sound like "rubbish", are you crazy?? Wow.........VSTJuNkiE wrote:Kriminal wrote:all free synths are rubbish, you need to spend at least $500 to get a pro VST synth, anything less and you are seriously compromising your musicafreshcupofjoe wrote:Hi,

Well... Actually yes you are. We are all your KVR-mates. Somewhere along the line mate started to equal friend but it's always meant "in the same boat" and that means everybody that's doing what you're doing.Kriminal wrote:im not you're mateyellowfever wrote:that's not very nice mate.
Just because someone is your shipmate does not make him your friend. Likewise just because someone is your friend does not make him your shipmate. More than anything else it means people that are in the same situation.
Thanks to 500 years of UK ships spreading it around the globe in the US we have shipmates, bandmates and teammates. Mate the word means the person you married. Again... It all means "in the same boat".
The term "shipmate" is over 500 years old. Despite mate being used in place of "friend" It still means the same thing it did 500 years ago. It might as well be busmate or airplanemate.... or even KVRmate.

What I have done lately is a lot of different approaches and searches. Thanks to KVR it has been very useful in my quest. Go to KVR's Plug-in ratings and do a search of both free and commercial plugs. Try different search options like do one for overall rating, one for sound etc. Download a bunch and try them. Most of the commercial versions give you enough to go on to decide if you want it or not. This does take a great deal of time(weeding them out) but it is worth it. I usually decide on various factors like sound possibilities and how easy it is to navigate the GUI for creating my own patches etc. Copy protection schemes sometimes enters into the equation as well. Doing a search of the forums is great as well. And there are other Sites/Forums to check out like HC and Gearslutz to mention a few.
I am planning on purchasing a couple of rather cheap commercial plugs soon. Not because of the price but I see them working well with my way off making music. I also find many of the above freebies worth using as well. BTW I contacted CM and asked about getting back issues. I really wanted the issue with Zebra CM. Unfortunately they emailed me back saying that issue is no longer available. One last tip, after trying them out, spend time using the favorites and get to know it(unless you are a preset kind of player). What I have found in the past was that while having a slew of Hard or soft synths, I didn't have the time to use the instrument to it's full potential. Sometimes less is more but I suppose that is another thread topic. Good luck
