Sorry guys, I haven't been hanging around KVR lately, and I had to drop by and do it for old times sake. Forgive me. :hihi:

Thanks to all who contributed.

I think that Kriminal was very much sending up people who say you can't get free synths that are as good as pay synths and that you must spend, like, $500. The fact is that Kriminal makes some of the best free synths around. I think he may have been teasing about just how well people know the free synth scene. As someone who has helped Krakli design synths, he knows -few better- that some of the freeware designers are expert scientists, programmers, artists and audio engineers. I don't know him, but within an hour of my posting a comment on Rekkerd that I couldn't find one of his synths, an admin contacted him and he posted the file to a free site for me. So I think that he is a gentleman. His synths are at http://www.kara-moon.com/index.php?modi ... m001_04_07 and I recommend Sartre and Nietzsche.

Whoever said that Trance was easy hasn't been listening to Aphex Twin or Autecre or Venetian Snares.

I have about 800 free synths on my computers. Which one you find most useable depends on you, but most people find that to get a range of sounds, you need a number of synths. I have all of DSK's synths - his romplers are excellent and will do what paywares costing $$$ will do. http://rekkerd.org/dsk-vsti/. You can get a lot of places by experimenting. For example, his harmonica rompler doesn't sound that exciting, but run a few examples at the same time through a sequencer and you will find some very interesting sounds.

Krakli has many good machines, and his Richman 2 is especially good for keyboards http://krakli.com/. I strongly recommend this wonderful VST.

Cosmogirl http://free-loops.com/vst-plugin-29.html has some beautiful bell-like noises, good for Lemon Jelly sounds. Actually I think it has the most beautiful sounds I've heard from any synth.

B Serrano's machines have already been mentioned on this site. Hades is very powerful, it's amzing he gives it away. http://bserrano.free.fr/Synths.html

Isonnu is a very versatile machine, but I couldn't tell you where to get it.

Soha Sonata has already been mentioned www.sohasound.com/sonata.php

Sonitarium doesn't look like much, but you'll love its powerful rich sounds. http://www.tutututututu.de/synths/ All of these synths are terrific - miffi is also very good.

The killer machines, like Godkiller, have already been mentioned.

Kronos http://vst-plugins.homemusician.net/ins ... ronos.html is not well-known, but is amazingly powerful.

Novaflash Oxytocin http://www.numerisson.com/novaflash/vst ... ytocin.htm is very powerful

The person who wanted to make Trance should maybe check out six toungs Drum N' Bass http://www.hervenoury.com/librairie.htm. You have to mess around a bit to find the download link.

Many synth designers, knowing what is is perhaps to struggle, kindly post old versions as freeware. The most generous is H.G. Fortune, whose classic line of synths only costs $9, and there are also freeware versions which aren't demos or in any way disabled or limited here http://www.hgf-synthesizer.de/. Look for a link on the 'Classic Line' page.

Finally, another very generous man has made a comprehensive review site avilable. I don't agree with eveything he says, but his recommendations are all very worthwhile. http://lesitedeburnie.free.fr/lalistedeburnie1-en.html

You are all obviously missing the whole point of this thread.
The answer is
S3, S3B, Stringz2, Cygnus, S3K, RichmanCM, or any other Krakli synth. Scarecely any point in a 5 page thread for such an obvious solution to the original post.

I thank you and Good night

>>> Indigocat. Mate, what a fantastic detailed reply to a trolled question! I've checked out a fair few downloads via KVR but some of the ones you list are new to me. Well done for taking the time and effort. And Kriminal makes vst's you say? :hihi:

Since when did Aphex Twin, Autechre, or Venetian snares make anything even remotely related to trance music? I'd actually like to hear that.

:o

Regardless of the intent of the OP, this thread will be dug up thousands of times by noobs looking for free synths, so it's not like it will go to waste.

...wait, did I just imply that noobs use the search function?

My head just exploded. :o
