For all the different ideas of what makes a good life, one thing seems to hold true throughout; the difference one makes to those we encounter in this life. A life well lived is one that makes this world better. It doesn't have to be great deeds. Kindness shown to a stranger or giving your time to make a child happy counts for so much.

I never knew Tim personally, save that he helped me with emails. That he should have been so kind is enough. But he also inspired me. To press a simple piece of plastic in the shape of a piano key and have something as soulless as a computer have such beautiful and inspiring sounds come out? The man made musical ideas live in my head. What a gift to give this world!

I wish courage to his nearest and dearest in facing the grief they must go through, and beyond that, joy in remembering him. And pride in thinking of the thousands he gave inspiration to. That's a legacy I would be proud of.

Didn't know him personally... only through being inspired through his sounds. (which still feels kind of personal!)

That's me and how many others? tens, hundreds of thousands? millions?

How many pieces of music would not have happened without him?

I received an email this morning from his wife Diane, who told me that he was out hiking, passed out and did not recover. I will remember Tim for his generosity, patience and kindness. Many of you will have corresponded with him, listened to his music or have been inspired by the sounds that he created, many of which he generously gave away. On a personal level, I have fond memories of him showing me the stars in Death Valley.

I'm sure you will join with me in passing on your condolences to his wife and daughter.

He will be greatly missed.

my sympathies to tim and his kin.

why do all the good ones go sooner than later?

Very sad news.
I've always found Tim's contributions to KVR be very positive and I've thought of him as a true gentleman. I've also been really impressed by his sound design work.
As it happens, I was surfing his old Atari web site yesterday (linked from a KVR post) and it was clear that he truely loved doing what we do! It brought a smile to my face.

RIP Tim.

i am also very shocked, Tim is the first designer to make me buy instantly a synth (was M42) by simply playing through his presets.
i even recall myself playing the M42 during the night and looking by the window at the cordillera above Santiago de Chile without being able to stop listening to the always evolving sound.
what a beautiful memory !
which other synth can do that ? none
Tim, you will always be present each time i will play your totem sound

Tim was my friend and I'll miss him. Tim always had a knack for doing things the right way and as sad as I am over our loss, I've got to say well done. What a wonderful way to go. I hope I'm as lucky when my time comes.

Condolences to his family. Tim was a lovely, generous, kind soul and I liked him very much. He was a very nice man.

Regards
Tom
