Well, if anyone wants to say that IDM tracker artists like Venetian Snares aren't making Trance, I won't disagree. I'm a little vague about modern definitions...the term seems very wide, but certainly there are progessive and challenging dance music artists. I just checked the wiki entry and it cites Klaus Schultz as first using the term, and here is me thinking all along that he was a Krautrocker. Now he is certainly someone that is trained to a very high degree in composition. I can't talk: I make industrial dance slime. The thing about industrial dance slime is that you can end up making it even when you don't intend to...
Thank you so much for the kind words, yellowfever and afreshcuppajoe. I think the point I am making is that most people who use freesynths have a stack of them. When you buy an expensive paysynth, often it is expected to be the egg-laying, wool-giving, milk-producing sow. An all-rounder that tries to do everything sometimes ends up doing few well. Whereas freesynths are often produced to fit a particular niche, and often do a limited range of things very well. For example, I have a freeware harmonica, a freeware accordion, a freeware flute and Erhu, and even one synth that does nothing but cowbells (it also has a cow moo). So to do a stack of things, you end up with a stack of machines - though some instruments, like Kronos and Hades, are pretty versatile.
If it's the same Kriminal, he produced about six or seven synths using synthedit. Like most synthedit machines, they are a bit cold and metallic, but the sounds are very beefy and strong. Good for dark leads and basses.

Ann is a female.
Also, just hilarious how krim can call someone a c**t and not get banned temporarily, and i get it instantly. I guess there is always double standards!
We are at the c**t's end of the world afterall. You'd think we knew one when we saw it.
Crass is fun.

EDIT: Note to self. Do not post on KvR from work when juiced up with two cups of coffee and a V directly after a boring 90 minute meeting.

I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but Automat is a great! freebie for Mac OS X. You have to dig into it though. No docs. But digging will yield wonderful surprises and functionality.
