Ocean Way Drums Silver and DL Edition are both available now for sale finally on www.esoundz.com in either boxed/shipped versions or download versions. But you really need broadband and some patience to do the download versions. DL Edition is 10 gigabytes (split up into about 10 or more downloads) and the Silver Edition is around 30 gigs! But, at least you can have it any time you want it now. You can also just buy the OWDE Player and pick kits a la carte for $39-59 each.

Also, FYI, the new download purchases come with the 1.1 update already in so you don't have to run the update. Just previous Gold and Platinum users.

Here are the direct links:

Silver Edition - 9 Multitrack Kits, 30 Gigabytes! Nice price. ;)

http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=2765

DL Edition - 5 Stereo Kits, 10 gigabytes, even nicer price! (plus you can pick out a downloadable Multitrack kit for free or two more stereo kits instead):

http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=2753

OR you can just pick up the OWD Expandable Player a la carte (no sounds, just the player) here:

http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=2752

and then pick out any of the stereo or multitrack kits a la care for only $39-59 each here:

Hope you like it!

Oh and your epointz do count for the download versions. A nice added bonus. If you're new to esoundz then you can GET epointz by having a look at DarkStar's epointz referral thread right here in our company forum.

Don't they just!
I've been keeping a few epointz back for just the right time and this was it, the player and Stereo Kit 15 all for a very good price. Just the one so far but hey, a piece of OWD and a path to add when I can afford it.
Epointz went to bluedad.
I've still got a few qs around IMap, I still just can't quite get it ...
1. could really do with some IMap files - not just replacing hits from midi files, but something to take advantage of the mappings/sounds - and also,
2. a tutorial about how to "upgrade" midi files up to IMap files (e.g. some common map changes/additions to make use of the extra sounds) would be excellent.
I know these will come with time, it's just that the sounds are soooo good that I know I'm only scratching the surface so far by simply replacing midi files with IMap equivalents.
Thanks Guys
Don

Not only that but at some point I'd love to make or see someone make an applet that could take a standard midi file and convert it to an imap midi file with some "alt" options where it can choose different left and right stick schemes for alting. You can do this manually though simply by editing your notes to switch up once in a while. We could do a tutorial on that. Our current tutorials are mostly on PLAYING the iMap but certainly editing with the iMap gives you the same step up from GM as the playing.

Glad you like it! One stereo kit is just scratching the surface. They're all just as good.

Hey..Thanks for the info. However, is there a 1.1 update available for those of us who spent $800 dollars before this much more sensible price came along? Seems that it might be prudent to support those customers as well....

Thanks,
brad

Great idea, c'mon techsters, harvest them applets!

Yes please ...

Yeh it was sure a tough call to go for just the one kit, but I resisted the temptation (... for the time being anyway)!
The Epointz sure helped out this time. :phew:

All the best

Thanks Brad. By the way, Ocean Way Drums Gold is still the same price as before and is a better deal for all 19 kits than getting them individually a la carte. Of course the price of admission to get INTO OWD-land has come down with this new Expandable Series but that's just part of the evolution of a product line. Also part of the evolution of a product line is a free update that provides additional samples (Chinas, Splashes and extra kick drums) as well as GM Maps and new Multis. That's the Version 1.1 update and it IS available by contacting support (at) sonicreality (dot) com. An official announcement will be made this week with information on how to get it automatically using your serial number. Until then it has to be done by emailing support your serial number so we can verify it and then get you a download link or instructions on how to download the free update.

Yeah, well now that there are no limits in how many epointz one can get then the time spent helping other people find what they're looking for and pointing them to esoundz to get it (which gets them epointz too) is a nice way to earn yourself some more soundz... if you like talking about this stuff anyway then you might as well pick up some referrals and some of you are pretty good at that! Good for you. You deserve it.

That said, even without epointz I think at these prices you could skip a meal and have a kit forever (it's called the Ocean Way Drums Diet! I should go on it myself!).

Squids- I think I may have mentioned this in a prior thread, but, it is possible in Cubase to create a script series that converts MIDI files from one format to another. XLN uses a proprietary format for Addictive Drums, but thankfully, one of their users posted a simple script on their forum that allows Cubase users to quickly convert those MIDI's to GM format. I am, unfortunately, mentally challenged in this area and have no idea how to create such a script. But I'm sure someone out there could come up with a GM to IMAP conversion script for Cubase.

Also, I'll say it again for those who might have missed it: GrooveMonkee (Groovemonkee.com) has an incredible assortment of MIDI beat files for sale. And they usually have some sort of promotion going on to make them even cheaper. They are well worth it.

All of their MIDIs are in various formats, and when you buy one format you get them all. And if they add formats later, you get those too! Recently, they updated all their files to IMAP format. (So now, I've really got it going on with all the Sonic Reality IMAP instruments. :hihi: ) Cheers -B

Thanks Squids....You're right about the price.
BTW, I have to mention: there is no comparison for this product. I have never used better drum samples in my 15 years of music production.

Period.

Question: Is the OWD Expandable Player the same as the Infinite Player? Or a separate install? I have IP already.

It's not the same as IP. You'll need to purchase OWD Player separately.

Yeah, the Ocean Way deal was done before the Infinite Player, but also it's a little different in how we did that product. Most of the Studio ProFiles/Infinite Player products I am the producer or co-producer of it and Sonic Reality is paying for it all (and often we spend every last dime we have to make these dreams become reality such as flying Billy Cobhams from Switzerland to Boston and Ken Scotts from LA to UK and Drum Kits and rare tube mics all over the world just to get "a sound").

But, as much as we are dedicated to that because we believe in it so much we could not do something like Ocean Way Drums on our own. It's like doing a Vienna Symphony Library on your own. I don't know too many sound developers who could have done that... if done THAT way then it had to be done by a multi-millionare who spared no expense. Well, to do Ocean Way Drums it also took that as well and it just so happens that the backer who could make that happen, the owner of the studio complex itself, is himself a Grammy-winning engineer who has worked on over 500 albums in his time! So, between him and our mutual friend Steve Miller who has engineered Dave Mathews Band, Switchfoot, Michael Hedges and all kinds of stuff from jazz to rock to you name it we were talking about a high level of involvement in our tiny "sample industry" from some music industry heavy weights.

Let me tell you guys some more about this because I take it for granted that a lot of people don't know. First, to have recorded this at Ocean Way's most booked room, Studio B - the famous room where so many top records were made from years ago with Sinatra, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole etc. to more recently with Radiohead, Kanye West, Green Day, Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Fiona Apple, Beck, Dido, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Rolling Stones and the list just goes on and on and on... So, to STOP commercial bookings from someone like say Clapton so we could record a SAMPLE LIBRARY for weeks and weeks lockout is something I'd have thought was just not realistically possible... especially not with ALL access to one of the best vintage microphone collections in the world! (When I do sessions in LA I do my rentals from Classic Rentals which is Ocean Way's mic rental company... and I get a deal. But even with my deal I couldn't afford to rent all of those C12s, Telefunkens and Neumans for weeks and weeks... it's just TOO luxurious for our "$99 download" industry!!!!

But they had a vision to do the Rolls Royce of drum plug-in/sample collections and spared no expense to do what it took to get it right... which also included just as much time if not more spent in the studio MIXING! None of the mixing was done by us. ALL of it was done by Sides and Miller with all settings determined while listening to Ocean Way's own custom monitoring system (this $80,000 speaker set that Aerosmith, Dr Dre. and various artists use - Dr Dre has a whole wall of them!). Plus, myself and at least two SR guys had to stay out there in LA while they did it... this was definitely the most expensive project SR had done (even more than Miroslav and we bought Miroslav OUT!)... although now with the Ken Scott Collection I think we've spent even more but that's because we're doing it on our own again. Ocean Way HAD to be done in PARTNER with them in order for it to exist. But, along with that is their fantastic continued involvement in the presentation of the product (like the videos they've made and continue to make - there's some new ones coming out) and their presence at the trade shows and perhaps some upcoming clinics at stores and events so... to have partners like THAT? In this little soundware industry? When they're taking time away from recording Mary J Blidge or overseeing a studio that at one point HALF the Billboard charts at one time had been recorded at Ocean Way (how many studios can lay that claim?)... anyway, you get the idea.

It's not that they're "too good" to do it because of who they work with or anything like that. That's not what I mean. What I mean is, from a business standpoint, it's a good thing they want to do this for MORE than just "the money" because they can make more money for their time doing a lot of other things. No, it's obviously because we connected with them on a creative level and they wanted to see a product like this exist! A drum product to THEIR standards and taste... and they were REALLY tough - dare I say even a bit anal but that's what makes them THEM... audiophile perfectionists.

So, in the end I think we got lucky that they got hooked on the idea of doing this with all of their facility's wonderful tools and their own personal time (enough time to do whatever it takes... without sending me a studio bill!). Now that you know this, and I don't mind telling you all the scoop because actually it might give some perspective on why this product has cost more initially and why it still retains its value and you're not seeing it being blown out or anything. They set out to make the Rolls Royce of drum plug-ins and critically it has received great reviews, awards like the Key Buy and it also won Editor's Choice Award from EM for best Sample Plug-in for 2008 (an award we never won before... pretty cool!), a lot of pros use it and now anyone on any budget can get it!

Other fun facts... Ringo Starr was the VERY FIRST person to buy Ocean Way Drums because he was at the House of Blues on Sunset and told his engineer who is a friend of mine that he wanted it and I was at Ocean Way just up the road in Hollywood and drove it over to him the day it came out! True story. Another fun thing, I recently sold an Ocean Way Drums to SPINAL TAP!!!!! (Theirs was modified to go to 11 jk) so I guess we'll be hearing OWD on their new record (I made a joke about the OWD box exploding afterward in a video... since all of their drummers self combust or choke on their own vomit). Stanley Clarke and Lenny White just picked up OWD... and there's a lot of other interesting things but I probably don't talk about it enough around here. This post should make up for it a bit! ;)

Squids 1 am mega post over. :D

:) Here's my first rough attempt (using a JS FX script in Reaper):
-- the orange MIDI clip is the original GM drum loop,
-- the cyan and purple MIDI clips are 4 IMap variations of that loop,
-- below is the rendered audio.

Rockin, Darkstar! Could you post the script, please? I think it's time for me to finally explore that feature in Reaper.
