Nice sounding kits!!
A few questions just to clarify the features of the DL version and\or difference between "multi-track" and "stereo":
The DL versions are basically lacking the ability to control the 3 mics but instead have presets which feature each of these mics? I assume these are non-adjustable settings, ie the ambience level is hard-wired on the Ambient preset etc?
Additionally, while there is a mixer channel for each piece of the kit, it will only output to a stereo signal?
Having said that, once this purchase is made it opens up the possibility to get multi-track kits (with adjustable mics and outputs) and, if so desired, accumulate the entire collection through a-la-carte downloads?
As an owner of the full version of Kontakt 3, would there be any additional functionality I could hope for, perhaps overcome the stereo limitations of the "player" versions???
Are there any crossgrade options as some Kontakt-player based libraries have?
Thank you!

Well, imagine you had a standard midi file (GM format) and it was playing one center key note (that D1 or whatever it is) and when you translated it to iMap the remapping of that note didn't just play the D2 of iMap but it alternated by some back and forth or random scheme between the iMap's two Center and off-center snare hits (or even mixing in the two edges as well once in a while). So it just moves the D1 notes to either D2, E2, D1 or E1 with it predomninatly being D2 (the main center snare of iMap). Could be a cool way to get "animation" out of what might otherwise be a bit of a stale sounding GM file. A little applet that did THAT would be really handy!DarkStar wrote:

Doug
Just a note that the way SR have now set OWD for the 'a la carte' option, means that you can try the OWD experience at a lower price point (and it is well worth it). I think the Squids detailed post clarifies the difference between the approach to IP and the approach to OWD far better.
I now have both, IP with quite a number of kits and grooves and OWD, although currently limited on what kits I have (just 1!). I have to say that even at 1st listening it rocks, you can feel the difference. It is well worth the option to enter OWD land at this price point!
Just my inital view but thought it may be of interest.

They're just mixed down to stereo. So there's a dry mix, a medium mix and an ambient mix per drum kit. You essentially get THREE playable drum kits per a la carte kit when you get the DL Stereo Kits for $39 each on www.esoundz.com
Additionally, while there is a mixer channel for each piece of the kit, it will only output to a stereo signal?
Well, each drum and cymbal "kit piece" is routed to its individual outputs for either stereo or multi-part outputs. You just don't have individual discrete mic mixing. That part is pre-mixed and you choose between simply DRY, MEDIUM or AMBIENT for three blends of the mics done by Allen Sides and Steven Miller (those are three of the 6 mixes that come with the Silver and Gold Edition).

Yep! Although in my opinion the BEST way to get into this is to pick up Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player and at least one or two stereo and/or multitrack kits. This is just to convince yourself that it is as good as everyone keeps saying it is. You have to experience it for yourself sometimes so this allows that for a lot less "admission price". However, once you've gotten started that way I would upgrade to Silver or Gold. The unofficial upgrade deal we're offering is a credit of half of your previous OWD a la carte purchase price OFF of the Silver or Gold Upgrade (or Platinum too). We are working on a system that will do this AUTOMATICALLY in your user area where it keeps track of what you're buying and applies half of your purchase of sub-products to the full version of that product as an upgrade. Just a nice way to make it easy to move up. But for now you can just tell Allen you want to upgrade and he will look it up manually and give you a discount based on your previous sub-product purchases like OWD a la carte kits and the player.
As an owner of the full version of Kontakt 3, would there be any additional functionality I could hope for, perhaps overcome the stereo limitations of the "player" versions???
Well, there are no stereo limitations that would be player-based so that's already not a problem. However, yes you can get in and do more with Kontakt 3. But, in order to use Kontakt Player products you do still need to own the Ocean Way Drums Expandable Player because that is the copy protection gateway for the sounds. Just to know. You can alternatively use either the KP or K3 after you've purchased it though.
Are there any crossgrade options as some Kontakt-player based libraries have?
People qualify for a discount for Kontakt full from a Kontakt Player product like this. Nothing the other way around at least at this point.

Something like this? (converted from an artifical clip with GM snare every 16th):Squids wrote:Well, imagine you had a standard midi file (GM format) and it was playing one center key note (that D1 or whatever it is) and when you translated it to iMap the remapping of that note didn't just play the D2 of iMap but it alternated by some back and forth or random scheme between the iMap's two Center and off-center snare hits (or even mixing in the two edges as well once in a while). I'm using simple probabilities to determine which IMAP Snare is picked each time, so they can be tweaked.
