Or should I just take the plunge and get the Omnisphere for $479?
Atmosphere or Omnisphere upgrade?

Hi - new to this forum and looking to add more VI's to my system. Is it worth the extra $$ to get Omnisphere? I can get Atmosphere on clearance now for around $200USD and later on upgrade to Omnisphere for $249.

I thought the upgrade to Omni was much cheaper than that?paulvanmidi wrote:Hi - new to this forum and looking to add more VI's to my system. Is it worth the extra $$ to get Omnisphere? I can get Atmosphere on clearance now for around $200USD and later on upgrade to Omnisphere for $249.

No, $250 sounds right. It's cheaper only if you have all Spectrasonics products. Then you get the VIP treatment.
For the original OP, it depends what you want to do with the VI.
Omnisphere is a full synth capapble of doing A LOT more than Atmosphere and sounds better (IMO) too although Atmosphere was for several years one of the best sounding VSTI.
Also depends on your system. Omnisphere is a very resource demanding synth whereas Atmosphere is much lighter.
Today I'm hooked on Omnisphere. When I had Atmosphere I noticed I was not using it much and upon installing Omnisphere I can't let it not be used in any composition I make. Atmosphere is still installed on my computer just in case I need some pad and not want to use the resource hungry Omnisphere.

Cool - would it be possible to sell the Atmosphere after I upgrade to Omni or it that frowned upon by Spectranoics?

They had some at our local music store - could not find any online - how much do you think it's worth on eBay? Were they not like $399 new?

They might not be worth much more than $200 since you can buy Omni for like $450 and it cost $250 to upgrade.paulvanmidi wrote:They had some at our local music store - could not find any online - how much do you think it's worth on eBay? Were they not like $399 new?
By the way on Ebay you can get Omni right now for $439 so maybe just do that?

Right but I could sell Atmo for $200 I would be getting Omni for $249 - almost half off - $450 seems like a lot for software - you can buy a computer for that price.
But I've seen the Omni demos and it's something I really want.
Just wondering if I can sell Atmo after I register it (which you have to do to get the updgrade price)..

I'm positive you won't be able to do that. Wait for one second hand. You can get it for $350 second hand.paulvanmidi wrote:Right but I could sell Atmo for $200 I would be getting Omni for $249 - almost hald off - $450 seems like a lot for software - you can buy a computer for that price.

Be very, VERY careful that you have the recommended system to run Omnisphere. If not, it can be a stuttering mess. Atmosphere sounds great and is a lot less taxing on your CPU. Still worth $250 for sure. If you've got the firepower to run Omnisphere I'd go straight for that, it's a fine bit of software.

Yeah i will using it on a Q9550 w 4GB of Ram - will that be enough?
The lowest I've seen Omni for is $295 used with no box but I heard you have to pay $50 to transfer the license so I'm a little wary of getting one off eBay that's been opened.

That't plenty. Yeah be careful who you buy it from on Ebay. Check their feedback and all and make sure you ask them if they plan to transfer it properly. Also the license transfers seem to take a long time with Spectrasonics.paulvanmidi wrote:Yeah i will using it on a Q9550 w 4GB of Ram - will that be enough?

Actually, if you bought Atmosphere after Omnisphere was announced, the upgrade is $199. $149 if you have Atmosphere, Trilogy, and Stylus RMX.yairhol wrote:No, $250 sounds right. It's cheaper only if you have all Spectrasonics products. Then you get the VIP treatment.
