So this coming Christmas i want to build my computer, i have found all the stuff i need and now my next question is about the software. I am currently running XP and was wondering can i install XP using the serial code i have on the side of my computer? Or will i need to buy Vista or Xp all over?

Assuming you are the owner of the XP license that the sticker on the PC refers to, then yes you can use it to install a fresh copy of XP using the same serial number. If you wanted Vista, you would have to buy a new license.
If you do not have the XP disk because it was an OEM install of the OS, then you can order a replacement disk for minimal cost from Microsoft. You just have to validate that you are the original owner of the license.
Some hard drives have a hidden partition containing a program like PC Angel that can be used in place of the original XP CD - you boot from the hidden partition and the Windows setup starts automatically. If you are not certain about how that would work, it's a little tricky to explain here - the original supplier of your PC might be the best place to find out.
Peace,
Andy.
