Can someone explain the premise of "Scripting"........ I'm looking to make a big purchase right now and I'm stuck between Kontakt, RMX, Guru, or MOTU BPM....

Basically it'll allow you to control various things in Kontakt from little "programs". Thanks for the info, but is it safer to buy direct from NI, or do I get the same package from other resellers?

I bought the B4-II crossgrade from Guitar Center (the brick-and-mortar counterpart to Musicians Friend). It was fully legit, and a full installation. It required that I have a B4v1 serial number in order to authorize.

If I remember right, I got the K2 crossgrade from Kompakt from a retailer as well (I'm thinking it was Sam Ash). I got my K3 upgrade from NI though, when they offered K3 for $75 the month of December 08.

I'd avoid getting the full version of Kontakt if you already have kontakt player unless you're looking to use scripts like SIPS - which kicks ass in its own right. NI is being really non-communicative about the latest update, meaning they're probably buried in bugs from the public beta test and behind schedule.

Kontakt 3 will be a much bigger upgrade once the 3.5 update comes out, and will be definitely worth your money at that point - but until then, you could definitely get a lot more as far as sound libraries are concerned for ~$250. The K3 library is a great starter library, but it's mediocre compared to most commercial libraries.

OR if he wants to use Kontakt with third-party libraries (my primary use of K2/K3). No other "compatible" product really is. But if K3.5 is a free upgrade (which has been stated earlier in this thread) no reason to not buy it now.

Unless you can get a download from NI I don't think there will be any difference at all... except that you'll probably be automatically registered if you order from NI. I've ordered lots of stuff from Musician's Friend and Sweetwater. I've never had a problem.

Very, very nice. My biggest complaint with Kontakt, now that I've gotten comfortable with its singular working environment, is that loading and building instruments feels a bit sluggish.

Kontakt Player won't play other libraries that don't come with it though. It's far more than just the ability to write your own scripts in the full version. You can build your own complex or simple instruments, edit instruments, and use the thousands of libraries available that do NOT use the Kontakt Player.

Kontakt 3 is going to cost the same now as it will with 3.5. I don't see the difference in buying it now or then. Just get it now and you will get the 3.5 update when it comes out. All for the same money. Besides, you gotta have something to PLAY those libraries that you buy anyways.

My one and only contact with NI customer service/support was out standing. They went above and beyond the usual. Why Do they have a bad rap ????

After hours of reading reviews and forum posts, I decided to go ahead and purchase it. There are some amazing libraries available that Kontakt Player will not load, so in a way, K-3 is a must.

I didn't even notice you were in Australia. Sorry about that, maybe my suggestions for other retailers wasn't appropriate. Always a concern about international shipping.

Definitely get Kontakt 3. I have both Kontakt 2 and 3 (as a developer I think it is important to support both versions), and the current version of Kontakt 3 is quite stable--much more than the initial release. And the included sound library is fantastic.

Kontakt-3 - Should I buy now, or wait for 3.5 - Or forget it
