So, Kim's been blogging...

How to do this, that and the other. Share, learn, teach. How did X do that? How can I sound like Y?

Yep, over here.

At the moment it's just updates on what I've been doing in the studio and the progress of various projects.

I'm wondering if people would appreciate a particular focus on something or other? Obviously there isn't the scope of a full-on Mix Workshop, but maybe I could go into a bit more detail in an area of interest? One thing that comes to mind is the interest people were showing in electronic drums. If I start actually making music with electronic drums, perhaps the blog could be a place where I can post my thoughts and ideas as I'm working.

What say you?

I just remembered, the MEGALOVE project has been all electronic drums so far. I could go into a bit more detail about what I've been doing there... although we're going to be recording live drum kit for the next couple of songs. We'll see... ;-)

How to achieve best results when mixing down to a stereo pair for mastering

Well Kim, I'm always interested in what you write, so I say- please! I would love to read about your experiences sequencing/mixing electronic drums.
I've already learned so much from you about mixing, but I'd always like to learn more. Bass guitar and vocals seem to be the most problematic for me.
I know, because of other work you do, that you are hesitant to be specific about the gear/plugins you use, but that is something I'd like to know more about- what plugins do you use for saturation, compression, reverb?

Thanks for all you've shared so far, I'm looking forward to whatever you choose to blog about.

Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I imagine the blog being more a place for thoughts rather than instruction, but stay tuned...

Here on KVR I have to be a bit more careful about what I say because I'm publicly affiliated with eSoundz. On my blog, however, I'm representing only myself - there's no reason why I can't talk about what plugins I use for saturation, compression and reverb. :hihi:

The other reason I don't talk about specific tools is that it's not all that critical. You choose tools that work for you, but the magic is in you, the operator.

Thanks, Kim, for that blog post.

I thought I recognized the reverb you used on the Flesh and Bone mix. It sounded great to me- I couldn't really get close to that "richness" with any of the reverb plugins I own.

I appreciate the information!

Double post. Sorry...

Post

As a general update...

I've been writing some articles for ProRec. There are three up now, and I've got a bunch more planned. They'll be a mixture of product-based articles and general technique.

I've also slightly reorganised my blog so each topic is easily accessible on the right-hand side. That way you can explore by bass, drums, compression, EQ, etc... Whatever you're interested in. ;)

Regarding ebooks or print... I'm still waiting for an offer.
