Bit hard to read up there.

At the moment, the prices for Core2Quad ain't going down enough, and the clock speed for the AM2+ Phenom II 940 seems to be the attrative point, price-wise. My only question is, does it come with decent stock cooling like the Intel Core2 CPU's? Overclocking isn't really a big thing here, and since I'm migrating from a 2003 system, it's going to be an improvement nonetheless.

The cpu cooler has an integrated fan over the top of a copper-pipe structure thingy. Looks pretty serious here in addition to the two case fans and a big fan in front of the hdd array. Runs great

Well, I'm planning to do my new build myself. I've got no hope for the Intel CPU prices to get any cheaper by Nay, so I concocted an AMD build (AMD4LYF BEHBEH) with an AU$850 cost margin in mind:

I already have a great box to use for my new build, though I could cut the cost significantly if I got a Coolermaster/Vantec PSU, a cheaper video card and a smaller hard drive. Lowering RAM is NOT an option for me.

I was originally aiming for the Q9550 for my setup, but obviously the CPU's quite more expensive than this one, as well as older. I'm looking for more comparison and benchmark reports to compare the PHENOM II 940 to the INTEL Q9400 and Q9550, cause it's looking real good VFM in terms of clock speed rating, but performance I wouldn't have a goddamn clue. (other than that both will obliterate my current machine.)

Do yourself a favor, Malice - check out the mobo carefully before buying one. You need the lastest Southbus sb750 series as the previous 650 and 700 series gave difficulty to many users. Also, make certain the mobo has a Texas Instru Firewire chipset. It's the only manufacturer that is universally praised for it lack of headaches.

The CPU and the Mobo are the backbones of your machine - you don't want to cut corners on either.

Well yeah. I'm still having trouble with that, as a lot of the boards either have not enough PCI slots, or is designed for SLI/Xfire, which I don't want considering their cost margin.
