Same as many others here - instant sale after the demo. Does things to drums my other compressors don't

Very nice work that has me re-thinking my "no" strategy for DCAM:Synth Squad :help:

Peace,
Andy.

Demo Restrictions are Quite Annoying!

in fact really annoying :x

Good Luck with sales on this Andy!

PS, i also had the frozen GUI first time i loaded the glue, (in XT2.5) but all is fine now,

just wanted to say i tried the demo and it sounds amazing so far, really punchy on drums and not exactly clean imo..very impressed
better than rocket and psp mixpressor imo

anyway...how much should i wait if i send the payment today?

like a couple of days or maybe even this afternoon

cause i wanted to use it on a track i'm mixing down
What do you mean by not clean?

Have you got any audio examples comparing it to the other compressors please?

I tried it on a full mix and it did not do it for me. For my material, ears, equipment, it was too chunky and tended towards pumping which does not fit the style I was aiming for. I'm sure that it is a good piece of kit, but for my needs it is not natural sounding and colors in a way that is not useful to me (too much exaggeration of attacks with too quick of a recovery on the releases). Given the design, I could probably continue to tweak it to get something more in line with my personal needs but I was able to get the results I was looking for faster and easier with either Density (Bootsy) or Endorphin (Digital Fish Phones). I don't mean that those are better than The Glue, I just mean that for what I was looking for, they were more efficient to work with and stylistically got me to my goal faster.

So, as ever, it's "horses for courses". The Glue didn't do it for me, but I'm sure that the things I did not appreciate will fit others' styles, ears and gear.

My thoughts exactly. Annoying demo restrictions, but it's still quite easy to find out if it suits you.

Andy said he would send out the e-mails as a priority (which likely means today) :)

Well, it can be relatively snappy, just to pick out one thing. Won't fit all needs, but sometimes you want that sound. To point out, try it on a drum-track with slow attack and fast release. Adjust threshold (try about 10-12db gr) and make-up gain.

Whats wrong with the demo, though?

You did try the range and mix knobs and high-pass on the sidechain(don't enable ext in), right?

well, as many other said, it gives a natural dynamic pumping effect to the sound wich is quite pleasent to me, especially for my style of music

It's interesting to read all the comments here where only a select few are biased by having heard/used the real hardware. NOTE: even though some units say they are SSL compressors, the only "real deal" is the desk. Period. They all sound a bit different, though apparently the components and work it takes to assemble the original is very easy (should cost around 200$ and take you a few days to assemble).

It is interesting to see here how many notice that "chunk" which either works or doesn't work at all, depending on style of music. This is exactly my experience with the hardware as well. It's definitely no "magic" compressor that is good on everything (there are a few of those, this is not it) and it's never been it either. The hype around the SSL sound has been steadily building over the years to ridiculous highs. Remember, there was a point in time when "the sound" of SSL was not synonymous with good (when they were the new player in town).

Anyhow, I think Andy's done a good job here and coded a nice compressor that can not be replaced easily with anything else. This is mostly due to the flexibility that the range knob gives. Together with the external sidechain (which lets you do look ahead, half cycle detection etc..), it is extremely powerful.

Still, I'm glad I tried the demo and didn't shell out my money immediately as this does take some pondering. I just got the UAD-1 card up and running and got reminded of how much I like their basic compressor in the CS-1/EX-1 channel strip (highly under-rated!). We'll see..

Cheers!

Thanks bmanic for a +5 informative post! Must get around to building a "real" one sometime ...

Good morning all! A few important bits of info for customers:

1) A big thanks to Derik White for him buying the first pre release copy ages ago and becoming a trusted tester before the copy protection was even done.

2) A big thanks to djanthonyw, who bought the first officially released copy.

3) Thanks to everyone who has already bought the glue, I will send everyone their custom builds today, in the order they were purchased, it will take me all day since I am still getting the distribution system in place.

Important note for trial users:

After I have finished sending all my paying customers their builds I will release a version of The Glue without noise. If you need to extend the trial period for whatever reason please email "support atsign cytomic dotsign com" outlining the reason for special treatment :)

FYI: the beta period will last > 1 week, it will last until I am happy every bug that I can possibly remove is gone before release.
