Cantabile 2 session compatibility

Hi Folks

I just asked myself in which regard sessions created with "solo" and "performer" versions are compatible.

Is it possible to restrict "performer" so that it behaves like "solo" ?

It's just a general question, not a feature request...

Sessions files are upward compatible, eg: Solo can load Lite files, Performer can load Solo and Lite files.

Going the other way, Cantabile will load as much of the session as it understands and display a message box that some things may not have loaded. If the file is then saved again (in the lower edition), those extra settings will be lost.

It's not possible to restrict higher editions to behave like lower editions.

Thanks.

The idea behind my question is when it comes to sharing session templates with certain rack / mediafiles configurations between users... I think it would be a good idea to have some getting started stuff for solo and performer users.

Maybe there is any place where cantabile users can exchange such things?

The biggest problem with this is that every user will have a different set of plugins installed. Other than that it should work. I understand what you mean now about restricting Performer functionality - you mean an option to "Save for Lite" or "Save for Solo". I guess that would be a little useful but I'm not going to be adding it at this late stage.

Not really - though this forum could serve as a starting point.

How useful does everyone think something like this would be?

Hi Brad.

As said, that was no feature request, just an idea that came up to my mind.

True, everybody may have different plugins but there are some nice free ones, so maybe there is some compromise for a "getting started" kit. Of course, every one might use others, I do so too, it's more about a starting point.

The easier it is to get started, the more people might like trying or using it...

Well, "save as xxx" would only be half the cake because then I'll need to know what will not work in solo when I use performer. That's not much different to the situation when solo discards the things it can not do during loading a performer session...

Beond that even "empty" template sessions could be helpful, like a mixer or rack of a certain size instead of tailoring everything for each new session.

But indeed that's not a big issue or something...
