Vista 64 Issues

When running the 32 bit version of Cantabile Lite Beta I get errors whenever I try to load most plugins. Should I expect the 32 bit version to load most 32 bit VSTs (even when the OS is 64 bit)?

The specific error I get is multiple "Can't load module. 'Synthedit BPM Clock V2', type errors.

The only plugins that seem to load are my Line6 Pod stuff.

Hi Festis,

* Cantabile x86 loads 32 bit plugins only and runs on 32 or 64 bit Windows.
* Cantabile x64 loads 64 bit plugins only and only rungs on 64 bit Windows.

If you'd like to send provide details of specific plugins that fail to load I'll check them out.

Thanks for that. I've tested both under 32bit Windows and they both load and run fine. Unfortunately I don't have access to my 64 bit Vista machine until Wednesday - so I'll test again in that environment then.

In the meantime, would you mind confirming whether these load correctly in other hosts under Vista x64?

Just tested on my Vista 64 and Rez loads fine in Cantabile 2.0 32-bit version. Sounds like something worth contacting ugo about if you can't sort it.

Is there any chance to use 32 bit plugins while to benefit from > 3GB memory in any host?? Would be interesting when trying to load more than one heavy samlping based plugin and keeping as much as possible in memory to avoid disk streaming...

Cantabile x64 runs fine on XP64 (I believe umd is using this combination for testing his bridge).

As for the DPC issue, this can also affect XP to and really comes down to the quality of drivers. Theoretically Vista should be less prone to problems in this area - it's just that many Vista drivers are crap - especially on notebooks, even brand name ones.

My recommendation would be to grab a copy of http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml and ask to run it on the machine you intend buying. If it's got spikes leave it with them to sort out... if they get back to you with a decent result you've probably found someone who knows what they're doing and worth dealing with.

As I'm considering to build a PC myself from parts this time I hardly can check this in advance... However, I am not considering a notebook.

I'm also considering a interchangeable HD frame so I can create a dedicated OS installation optimized for music stuff on an isolated HD.

Which driver types did you identify to create DPC hassle?

Oh, I have that checker already... could not see obvious hassle on my current machine... however I didn run this over a longer period of time... I should try this, remember you mentioned spikes can occur quite rarely, maybe after minutes or longer, still spoiling audio then...

...I've run the DPC tool for many hours now on my old P4 "cucumber" PC with XP 32bit... while doing some regular stuff like surfing, emailing, etc.

Result:
"This machine should be able to handle real-time streaming of audio and/or video data without drop-outs."

Test interval: 976 us
Current latency: seldom hits the green line...
Absolute maximum: 1780 us

I've just seen one event producing a yellow bar... i.e. when I shout down Cantabile... really a serious issue... LOL

Can't unterstand that modern machines that are approximately 10 to 20 times faster have such issues and that certain drivers are programmed that bad... that's really a shame!
