Hello

Wonder if anyone can help me out;
I recently purchased a BCR2000 to run in ableton, for live purposes, I can't seem to get it to recognise the BCR2000.
Is the BCR2000 compatible with Windows Vista?

Thanks for your help

isnt it a class compliant device? it is on mac

It is. At least mine works perfectly on Win XP without a driver of its own.

Truly mind-boggling music! - New album out! - And a blog!

i still get nothing, i thought that connecting it up via a usb cable would be enough for me to use the device in ableton

I just received my BCR2000 today. Patiently waiting 'til darkness (had to work on my trusty old Amazon during daylight).

I connect it and... nothing happens.

Quick search on behringer.com tells me that USB only works for Mac, Win 2000 and Win XP. Vista is not supported. You have to connect it to a midi-port instead!

Bummer. I have to get an audio interface for my newly gotten mixing computer anyway. But, I do think this is something that should be emphasized in the technical information! I mean, XP is not even supported by MS anymore (well, tinily, thanks to sub-notebooks and the Linux super dominance in that area...)

Definitely not 100% true - using mine on vista 32. Class compliant, just plug and play

I would be annoyed if there was no 64 bit driver though, which maybe the case
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Check in Device Manager if you have a new USB Audio Device, at least that's what it's called in XP64, class compliant. Works great.
Never tried the original driver.
Making it known to your software is a different issue.

Hey! It does show as "BCR2000" under the audio/video/games-branch. But, yeah - how do I get it to kick in to action in Cubase SX (3)? Hints? Link?

SX3 ? Can't recall when I last used that. Even 4.03 was so much better ...
But anyway, here's what I do in a nutshell, mostly copied from another thread.
I have made a great working setup to control my UAD, SSL and Bootsie EQs, learning on the go from my mistakes (and there were a few).
Basically my concept is as follows:
-- BCR with the class compliant MS driver, no Behringer soft involved
-- The BCR only uses a single preset mapping the controls, everything else is done and saved in Cubase
-- The free BCR Manager does all the BCR administration you'll ever need and will save/load/transfer your presets as syx. A bit unusual UI, not following the Windows conventions, but once you got it it ain't bad.
-- the top row of knobs is used for Quick Controls, no secrets here
-- set up a new Generic Remote with the BCR as input and output
-- The top half of the window maps your BCR controls to Cubase
-- in the lower half you define what the controls are supposed to control in Cubase, I call that a layer. You can have several of those while you only need to set up the top half once and for all
-- the buttons and lower 24 knobs are mapped to the plugins in question, one Generic Remote layer per plugin. As you might know, the layers can easily be switched in a small floating window using the mousewheel.
-- the only catch is that the plugin control only works in the slot it was programmed for, so comps and channel strips always go in slot 2, EQs in 3 here. I can live with that.
-- so from user's view it works like that:
- select a channel in the mixer
- select the appropriate GR layer
- the LED rings and button LEDs always update to reflect the current plugin settings, even if you alternate between mouse and controller, tweak away !

BTW, forget about the Mackie emulations, much too limiting, if at all they can make sense with a BCF imho.

Hey! Thanks a lot for the help! Got a bit confuzed by the guide as a whole, but the points really made the picture clearer - helped a lot. I'm now controlling levels and panning on the channels - woohoo!

Think I'll update to Cubase 4 soon, because it's got a few features that I've really missed. Like really creative routings (I'm under the impression it let's you route groups and FX in to groups too?)
[[/off topic]]

I will experiment around the day after tomorrow. I'd like to get it setup so that I have four presets of ch 1-8, 9-16, 17-32, 33-48 and "selected channel" on preset 5, and by going through the presets I'll be able to control either vol,pan,send1,send2 on eight channels a time or "everything" on one channel (like for twiddeling with compressors and EQ). Maybe one preset entirely for EQ (eight bands of F, Q and Gain - should be possible right?)

Hope I will find a good way of getting that done. Changing mix-maps in cubase seems akward, because it means I have to use the mouse.. But then again - maybe I just can leave it hovering over that window and just reach for the scroll wheel... Well, well. Now I've got something to sleep upon.

Again, thanks for the help!

Hi Oscar,
good to hear you're on your way.
The worst is done now, the rest is finding your concept.
Most of what you want can be easily done, as long as you're using the stock EQ which is pretty decent in C4 and C5.
In your case you might actually benefit from the Mackie emu.
Check out these sites :

http://www.xmlconsulting.co.nz/husker/huskervu.htm
http://www.medwaystudios.com/bcr2000-huskervu.html
huskervu is a software MCU display, you'll need MidiYoke for that.
My workflow is different, I'm not mixing in the traditional way at the end of a project, I'm mostly mixing on the go, during recording, basically starting from the 1st second, so I don't need multiple channels simultaneously.
I'm constantly jumping between groups and audio channels. What I do need constantly however is control of EQ and channel strip plugins (not using the stock ones).
Anyway, good luck,
Cheers,
susiwong

When you upgrade go straight to C5, already very stable, haven't started C4.5 once since C5 came out. A few little issues, no showstoppers here.
And yes, all working routings are possible now (feedback routings are disabled, fortunately).
