The Glue

To:"Jay-Producer" It's very well comparing it to different compressor models, but I prefer to test against the original analog hardware. On Grearslutz sweetjesus has posted some examples comparing The Glue to his SSL G-series SuperAnalogue(tm) bus compressor in a blind test:

The majority of votes preferred The Glue slightly, but in the end they said they sounded very similar and it was hard to tell. To me that means I've done my job and the rest is down to personal taste as to weather you like the sound of the original or not.

Good point Andy but its still relevant to hear it to other soft compressors. I'm particularly eager to hear it compared to Vienna Compressor for natural.

That Sweet Jesus track was incredible.

I picked A at first, but then couldn't decide.

to my ears The Glue is right on target.

I really like the glue, but for buss compression I wish it had a channel unlink for dual mono operation. In stereo mode it narrows the stereo field too much to my liking.

I know it is probably possible to do some routing within the host to achieve this, but I would prefer to work with only one instance of the plugin.

arghghh i knew this would be releases when i was away for a week!!!

Ha! Same with me: i picked A for better sounding (more punch / Attack) but thought "glue" might be B.

Cool i was wrong. 8)

B sounded more edgy, hence punchy for me. And a bit cleaner? But the difference is very subtle. Need really concentrate you ears.

Was this test between soft SSL (waves)?

Just a small point, gaining the left and right signal by the same amount preserves the stereo image, unlinking them can widen the stereo image but at the cost of not preserving the stereo image. There is enough room on the user interface to possibly even add a continuous mono to stereo knob instead of just a simple unlink button. For now though, I'll leave it as is, but for a 1.1 this is definitely something I am interested investigating.

The answer is already given in the post here ( http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... 81#3507081 ) and in the original post on Gearslutz too.

The test was The Glue vs. a real SSL X-Series Buss Compressor. It's interesting how most people preferred The Glue in that test.

The needle is Very nice.
I feel that my meter have a little more inertia to it and maybe you could ease back on the motion blur a little. But this is really knit picking/or just my personal preference. (Also I have a black needle on white/cream background)

So it does its job and stays out of the way, just like a good meter should.
(Maybe a boring description but that's how I think about it)

It could well have been that this was caused by the audio being sent through two sets of converters, one from digital to analog, and one from analog to digital to allow processing of the signal through the analog hardware. A fairer test would involve having a loopback signal (ie completely dry with just the effect of the converters) and process that signal with The Glue and compare the two.

I was thinking that even the differences between the X-Series and G-Series compressors (if there are any) could account for the difference people hearing. No matter though, I still LOVE The Glue.

At these prices I'll be buying whatever you release going forward.

Hey Andrew ! I really like your Plugin !

Would it be possible to make The Glue skinnable ?

Here's a rough sketch of my idea how it could look (sorry for dreaming and cutting your Plugin into pieces ;)) !
