Hi!

This is my first post here:-)

Congratulation for make great software.
Yester day I found it and tested Demo Performer 2 by 2 hours. I have 2 questions, please respond, I will thankful.

1. I bought MACKIE MCU PRO, Behringer BFC and BRC 2000 controllers, all with feedback support. I'm just skip from live LE (it almost suits my needs, but I have no money for update to full version), and I take as nice gift SONAR8 PRODUCER. SONAR is great, but linear. I'm rather interested in live performing (changing altered songs without stopping audio , and simultaneously record both my personal tracks from vsti, vst and hardware synths, plus record live tracks from my friends guitar, congas, sax etc.) Question: has Cantabile Performer function like MIDI feedback for update controllers like I have (in case of changing songs)? Will be MCU supported in future?

2. Can you tell me what is proposed model of using Cantabile Performer in context of creating songs from scrath (compose)? I understand that Cantabile is focused on non traditional playing of clips, that give more freedom in build live performance, but where is best place to store my initial ideas: in Cantabile or rather in other sequencer like SONAR, and then reuse in Cantabile? Of course I see that Sonar has additionally event list for example (for detailed editing midi events) and more, but Cantabile has also nice set of features what can do good job for me, because they are easy available with midi remote etc.

OK. I think it is enough for first time. I hope it will be useful.

Best regards,
qmax

I can give you two preliminary answers - because I am not the develloper of the software, so "Brad" might know better...

1) As far as I know there is no Midi feedback... but to be honest, I have requested that already too and got the answer that this is rarely asked for... so anyone asking for that might increase priority to add that anytime... :D

2) I don't use recording much but Cantabile has some cool way of recording to create clips without starting/stopping recording mode all the time... it creates multiple recording file snippets automatically when a certain (definable) amount of time has elapsed. So you can catch ideas without much effort...

Thanks!

1) OK, since I read most of text here at forum yesterday, I see that develloper of the software is open to hear what is needed for use. I dont espect nothing (please, please include that feauture! :-)), I only would like to announce that it is my dream (I bought for that my controllers) that:
- with changing songs I have response on controllers (software will set up my faders...),
- all the time everything is recorded (I dont like to load each project in SONAR separatelly on gig or each time seting up tracks for recordings. Imagine what I feel when I must load each project in SONAR and my friend waiting for playing). You know that most inspire ideas are play beetween songs.

So I found Cantabile, and hope that it can help with realize myself.

2) OK, I seen in manual that tracks are recorded in background, it is new idea for me but I like this (smart!). Can you confirm: I understand that when I played something that I like in realtime, then I can be found in specified folder as midi or audio capture file and reused as my new clip?
If yes then (I know question after question, but I'm a litlle excited) then I must check it today.

Thanks for fast response.

Hi

Indeed, during beta phase for the new version of Cantabile many user requests and ideas have been included.

1) Another one in the boat requesting midi feedback is another reason for Brad to include that, maybe not in this version but probably in the next. I plainly support your request too... it would make this software even better... :D

I also find loading times too long in traditional DAW's when I think of choosing songs for live performance... I'm not using this so anyway one hint: check out "energyXT". You can load that DAW like a plugin into cantabile and it loads really fast. You can use it stand alone too and it is not really expensive, 59 bucks I guess... So you need to check out the gui, it's not to everyones taste...

2) Yes, that's basically how it works. There is even a special window you can open and watch new recording snippets appearing... you also can open and listen to these without much effort. Only thing you should check out is "Options" - "Audio recorder" - section "auto record" to adjust settings for "split recordings" and the other values presented there to your liking, especially when you want one long recording...

Check out and have fun! :D

Hi QMax,

Thanks for your interest in Cantabile. No problem on all the questions... especially when others answer for me (thanks TiUser :) )

Anyway, I think most of your questions have been answered, just wanted to acknowledge the vote for MIDI controller feedback - it's certainly not going to make this version, but I'm hearing it.

But I read that Cantabile can play many "songs" simultaneously or selectable, so if it is possible then why would I need to use an additional daw inside?
Thanks for tip - I'll try energyXT today also, better to know what I ask about.

Are you suggest me that feauture of changing songs in Cantabile is not enough powerful for proffesional jamming with my realtime aranged songs together with acoustinc musicans, all recorded simultaneously also when I change songs?

As always I just want to inspire... :D

You can use enerxyXT "projects" either way, stand alone or from within Cantabile, that's just to give you another option... check it out and decide...

I am not so experienced with Cantabiles mediaplayer that I can seriously confirm from experience that what you want works perfect... or how it works compared to ableton live... however from theory it should if your PC is powerful enough (I don't mean high end here, just I'm currently using an old P4 machine that can not do too much simultanuously...) and if you configure things appropriate.

When you have a so called "session" loaded in cantabile there are enough options of switching that I guess you won't have trouble. Performer allows using "subsessions" which are very instant. So loading a session can take some seconds on a slow machine like mine - depending on content of course - but that's still much faster than loading projects in usual DAW's...

Maybe just try it on your machine, that's what the demo is for... :D
