Watch here at around 2 minutes:
Fatso will come, it's officially stated 8)

For the "Range" thing on "the glue": that is really amazing! Also it is totally different to the regular "dry/wet" knob. When backing off the dry/wet knob, the drums loose this "smashing" sound. When backing off the Range knob the drums still smash really nicely :D
Ooh! I'll watch that in a sec, when my mix is finished exporting.

Shit, I really liked The Glue on the drum & bass buss, and indeed, I found it hard to replicate that exact sound. I really liked what it does for the transients, and squishes the content extremely musically, I think. Almost a no-brainer compressor! Damn.

Damn you, Andy... :P

Well, one step closer to parting me from my money! I'll test it further, though.

jjsr wrote:too bad. The VU animation wasn't that bad at all. I mean this "smear"-like effect. Andy: How would it be when you implement some options on the "About" page of "the glue" to switch this effect and an option for finetuning the softclip?!?

The "smear" shows the minimum and maximum needle position from the last time the needle was drawn. The main white line shows the current position of the needle. It's a quick way to at a glance see what is going on with your compression.

The peak clip is not a major feature of The Glue, if you don't like it then you have the option to switch it off. When switched off you can simply put your favourite shaper, that has as many features / buttons / graphs / shapes / algorithms as you want, post The Glue and you will get exactly the same behaviour anyway.

was waiting a long time for The Glue...since Mr.Duda told me about it. now I have to say that I'm totally blown by this compressor. was mixing a really fat song recently and thought that I want to try The Glue on this one. first removed Fairchild from master bus / it works great in a very extreme setting on master bus/ and inserted Glue. man the difference was huge with a fair amount of compression and range set to 15 it sounded so full.
then i inserted it on drum bus and worked a bit. again it worked great on attack, bottom end and really brought the beat forward.
next was the vocal bus on which I often use LA -2 , Neve 3306 so I was not sure. made some tweaking of attack, release , range and the result was/is stunning. the compression is there. it's all pumping but it's by no means flat and dead..
I use UAD a lot while mixing and needed a compressor that is different from what I have yet as powerful if not more powerful...and The Glue gave me this great results.
it's musical, effective, powerful and you really hear the difference when tweaking it which some times is not so obvious.
congrats Andy on great product and big respect for letting me work with top end gear. if not developers like you it would be impossible..who can afford SSl desks this days ?

this is so great!!!!! :)

one question: what is exactly Range feature. I'd like to know more about it. thx.

Glad you're getting good results from The Glue :)

When I modeled a few analog compressors I noticed a difference in transient sounds than my initial models which was especially evident with long attack times. The sound of the analog units was more natural sounding on the attacks than my models and I wanted to know why. I tracked down what it was and worked out how to give end users control of the depth of it: the Range knob was born!

You can really control how much the compressor acts on your signal with the Range knob but still get a much better tone, in my opinion, than doing parallel compression. That's about all there is to know really ;)

I recently completely broke the bank and purchased a real API 2500 bus compressor. Obviously, money-wise, it's silly to compare it with plugins but all I can say is WOW :D You strap this thing across pretty much anything and you have a smile on your face that's hard to wipe off. Just the circuitry - the transformers - sound so sweet it's unbelievable; the kind of sound that has yet to be reproduced in a plugin. And the compression sound is something else too.

As someone "brought up" on plugins it's been a revelation for me. I really didn't quite realise how marked a contrast there is between high end analog hardware and plugins - it's ridiculous!! It's a massive cliche, but this thing really does make your mix sound like a record and, if you can afford it, is guaranteed to make you very happy indeed. It's totally changed the way I approach mixing. The danger of course is that you then open the flood gates, wondering if it's be nice to have a real 1176, a distressor or two, maybe a Fatso. Oh, and then you need to start thinking about some uber converters... :)

I just tested on mac os 10.5.6 with logic 8.0.2 and the glue (au) 1.0.8 and I couldn't get it to crash. This is not good news since that means I can't easily find the bug people are having. Can people with this setup please try doing a full au rescan to double check it's not that? Also if anyone has a logic song, with just logic effects and instruments and the glue that crashes in an easy way I would really appreciate it if you could email it to support atsign cytomic dotsign com.

I really want to get The Glue working flawlessly with Logic!

I hear ya, man. I'm currently learning the cliche of using higher quality gear, and I can only imagine the real units' benefits. I envy you. Once I make some money again, hardware will be considered. It also has great resell value, unlike plugins, and you can often sell something for the same, or more, than you bought it for!

Sorry for OT! Lovin' The Glue, Andy. And I'll test it in Logic (noob that I am, though), and see if it crashes. If there's a problem, I'll usually suffer from it, right guys? :D

ok i think i've found what the bug is on my setup.
The Glue has problems with the D16 beta plugins.
These are Drumazon, Nepheton and Phoscyon.
Bear in mind that these are beta versions so the problem might be fixed on the release version.
I dont have their AU effect plugins so somebody else might be able to try it out.

Anyway, inserting and then removing The Glue in a project with any of the D16 instruments will crash Logic.

Can anyone confirm this?

Maybe Cytomic needs to create the same algorithm compressor, but with the ability to set custom attack, release and ratio? If it ever happen, i buy this thing immediately.

here's a link to a track I mixed with The Glue on master bus , on drums and on vocal group.

it helped me to shape the sound pretty much in a way I had it in my mind...

it's in polish language :)

the Range and dry/wet functions are very useful indeed...

You really should talk about that in a separate thread. You wouldn't want this thread to get unnecessarily long.
