MIDI and Audio setup in Rhino?

Where in the standalone version of Rhino can I select my Audio and MIDI In/Out devices? Whenever I want to use Rhino outside of my DAW, I get an error message ("MidiOutOpen failed") and distorted sound. I don't have any of these problems when using Rhino as a plugin.

SZurcio, can you share the solution? I'd like to utilize Rhino's step sequencer to control other VST instruments via MIDI out and have been unable to find any configuration other than the MIDI out button. I'm just running the demo at the moment to evaluate it, so perhaps the demo has this function disabled. I've been unable to find a definitive statement that says that the notes output by the step sequencer are indeed routable through the MIDI out function. The step sequencer doesn't generate midi out. It is just a way to trigger notes internally.
The midi out button enables generation of midi controls whenever a parameter is tweaked, so that you can automate Rhino using midi automation, instead of the standard vst automation.
