Agreed. He does still have his plugins up for download so I'd go easy on him. He has contributed a lot of great free plugins. He has earned a certain amount of respect for that if nothing else.

afaict it all came down to the 2094 plugin.

I belive Daniel got fedup with it all because another dev went ahead without permission and developed an exact clone of it. Perhaps this was done purposly to stop the whole teasing Daniel was doing with 94. Then again depending on how hard he was working on it, that would piss me off too.

The thing that sucks is that after the whole fiasco, even the clone was not made available :bang:. So it ended up being a lose lose for everyone in the end.

Well as you are not allowed to use them in any project that happens to make any money.. ever, then perhaps not so much was lost after all? I don't know about you guys but I can never say for certain if a project ends up being commercial or not. Most songs I start to work on simply for my own enjoyment. Many have ended up on somebody else's commercial work because they happened to like it and asked for permission to use it.

I just deleted all the TLS plugins as I didn't realize Daniel was so strict with the terms of usage. IMHO the terms of use are complete bull crap, though I do realize his apparent point but it's way flawed non the less.

Cheers!

Awww, crap... here's what the User Agreement states...

"This plugin is FREEWARE.

You are allowed to use it for personal use only.
You are not allowed to re-copy or sell the dll file for money or include the dll
on compilation CDs e.c.t"

I must say that this is very loose wording. However, given the "personal use" statement there, I think I'm going to have to delete them too. It's a pity, really... I do like them a lot. But as you, I never know where some of my work might end up. It really puzzles me... why not just limit the plugins to not allowing re-sale/re-distribution, but let you do whatever you want with them? AFAIK, most freeware works like that...

Ah, well... I'll have to go through some of my mixes and replace all instances of these guys I spot... too bad...

How many people out there include VST .dll files on their CDs? All that wording says to me is that you can't re-distribute the VST, or any part of the code, the GUI, the name etc., not that you can't use the plugin as part of a creative process or a final mastered project. They are just protecting their property rights. And when it all boils down, are you actually able to tell which plugin was used on which tune? I think not. The user agreement is being twisted out of the scope of it's intention.

Can't you guys read??

This only describes what you can and cannot do with the .dll file. It does not say anything about using it in personal or commercial projects: the music made using it.

As I read it, you can continue using it. Only the .dll file may not be redistributed.

Exactly, BertKoor! I think too much is being read into it. And if the intention was to not allow a plugin's usage in commercial projects, they better do a much better job of wording the user agreement...stated as is no court would even waste their time hearing a case on that basis.
