I'd feel like a jerk answering you :P

I'll wait :)

Is that a guitar on Oxyjohn or synth 1 emulating a guitar? :hihi:
Nice emulation of the child giggle too - There are a few things about synth1 I did not know around here :o

Well vote is cast and (unfortunately) it is not on Oxyjohn. Nice work all of you however. I have absolutely no love for that synth at all, so it is nice once again to realise that it is mainly the talent that matter at the end of the day.

Thx for the experience!

hey all

I finished my track just in time for this thing to be over. I started it so I might as well finish it, on time or not. ha!

I pretty much stuck with the original rules to use synth1 only and ambience reverb (don't like it but...)

my only devitiation from the rules was for the bass drum, snare and hihat sound (microtonic). IMO synth1 sucks at perc sounds. There is a shaker type sound in the middle that is synth1 but the programmer didn't mean it that way. I tweaked it quite a bit as well as all the other sounds.

patches: thanks to nolwenn (most are from her banks) and teksonik (1 or 2) although you might not recognize some of them. ;)

SinthesisUno

hope you enjoy it.

Sorry sinzero, our submission date has long passed, but cheers for the link to your track, and cheers for supporting the comp as you have. I'll certainly give your track a listen.

Hopefully we can get going on the next comp as soon as we wind this one up, and I hope you can enter a track.

If you read back, you will see that its heading toward an oatmeal only comp. Please post any comments you might have re. the discussion so far on how we go about running it this time.

Hskovland .... cheers for your comments and encouragement.
As above, hope you will consider taking part in the next comp ... assuming you have more love for oatmeal than you do for synth1 :)

And talking of next comp ..... unless there is a pick up in the discussion, I will open a thread in one week's time, announcing an oatmeal only comp, and I will draw up a set of rules fairly similar to the ones we just used ..... and they will be final! :x

It could also affect one's opinion of expensive orchestral samples and the expensive sample players that are needed to use them...

Tattiemannie,

Thanks for your comments a while back on the OnePingOnly track.

For the second competition, can you consider either using Crystal or allowing Mac users to use a different plug-in. It's one thing using MIDoverLan to coax OnePingOnly into action. Doing it for a regular two-osc synth is something else.

If not Crystal, perhaps allowing the use of Twin2, which has a pretty generous eval period, would work. Or perhaps Automat.

Post

Sinzero .... thats one hell of a track! ... fantastic sounds! well arranged, nice mix ... Be sure and get an entry into the next comp!

Cheers to everyone for keeping the comments coming ... Crystal is well worthy of a comp Chrised ... I think the weight of opinion so far though is that Oatmeal should be next .. but that may change if we get more feedback.
I personally would like to include Mac users if a level playing field can be agreed ..... pardon my ignorance though, are you suggesting that Crystal is for Mac as well as PC? .... that would be great!

I'm thinking we should have a slightly shorter time for the comps if a lot of suggestions start to pour in .... would two weeks be too short? if we turn the comps around fairly quickly, then it wont matter as much if anyone misses out on one, and anyway, its possible to have a few skeletal arrangements on the go just waiting for the right 'one synth' to feature.

Crystal runs on Mac.

Post

Cool! Then I suggest we go ahead with the oatmeal comp, and if someone in the know can suggest a Mac equiv then that would be cool.

Then we do a Crystal comp! ... If theres support for this suggestion, then at least if Mac users are inconvenienced by the Oatmeal comp, either because there is not a feasible oatmeal equiv, or any disputes which might arise during discussion, then at least they know what the following comp is, and they can choose not to waste their time treading muddied waters, and instead have more time to get their Crystal only tracks nailed!

How does that sound? Am I a good egg or what? Anybody gonna vote for my track? :hihi:

Alphakanal's Automat looks to be the nearest equivalent to Oatmeal in terms of oscillators and onboard FX. OK, it's three oscillators rather than two but there's no arp.

how about if everybody goes out and gets CM and we do a comp using ZebraCM?

you can order a copy of CM online too

Zebra outdoes oatmeal and crystal put together, IM0

I'd vote for Zebra CM, but it's technically not free. True... you can order a copy online... my subscription took over 1 month for me to receive my first issue.

I'd vote for Oatmeal over Crystal because I'm a Mac hater. And partly because I think the sounds coming out of Crystal are a little more limited and are IMO better geared towards pads. But... mostly because I'm a Mac hater. I'm an OScist.

have fun
