Subjectivity does come into play regardless of design. We live in a world where most commercial products are designed by "professionals" and yet there is not a single product design that ALL will enjoy. Does this make sense? If you are going to refute this statement, please provide examples, because I'm only stating what is common sense here.
Not so naive imho.

At the end of the day only the quality of the reverb will stay on the tracks, and no one listening to the music will worry about the colour of the gui of the reverb, or if the rendering of the textures is really up to date compared with the last video game.

I understand the concerns of our graphics specialist. Graphics have their own rules, hypes, and well its a living world as music sw is. Not saying here that good graphics are not important, but .....

This said back in the old days we did music with hideous programs.(Remember Notator ? )

But well, still, we made music ....... and none cared about the graphic quality of our programs afaik.

Great post... very well said.

back to the group buy idea...

some one be the final decision maker and then let the groupbuy speak for itself.

or just run another coupon so everyone has a chance to get the reverb at 149 and then everyone will be happy...

including existing customers.

It is a great reverb. I might be cynical but I'm surprised that the marketing generally matches the features; it's not a static sound, and for a reverb the number of sounds and patches that come out well is far, far above average. Also it's not a CPU murderer. Technically and sonically this plug has exceptional merit.

Still, without going into any economics other than my own - it would be very difficult for me to justify over $200. At $100 it would be a clear 'buy'. A price in between there is probably fractionally proportionate. A group buy for something like $150 would be really tempting. In any case it's a definite 'wish list' plug that leaves a very memorable and favorable impression.

Anyone else have a suggestion on a fair price. Any previous promotional purchasers have a suggestion to keep it fair for them--other than issuing a refund or waiting?

How was I being pompous? :uhuhuh:

I totally agree with you about subjectivity, and I wasn't/ didn't intend to argue about that at all. For instance, I can say that I don't like Alchemy's design, but I love the design of Gladiator..BUT..There is no doubt, both GUIs have been designed by 'professional' graphic designers. I don't think anyone could argue about that, and I just prefer dark GUIs.

Just because YOU like the design of Aether does not change the fact that the graphic design is amateurish, and this all I meant when I said it's not about subjectivity (referring to my original post on the subject).

This is the last time I'm going to post about this here, it's OT and unfair to continue discussing it within this thread.

this is your quote...
Subjectivity hardly comes into this at all, on a professional level

My point, subjectivity does come into play at all levels. This is not math, or engineering. There are guidelines but there are not "permanent set rules" that allow for something to be considered wrong or right. There can be a majority or minority that likes/dislikes a design, but never ALL. Clearly this is common sense not naivety like you suggested. A simple look at the difference in graphic design over the last 40 years clearly shows the subjectiveness of the profession and its practice.

Also, just because you don't like the GUI doe not make it amateurish, it simply means YOU think its amateurish, whereas I don't. Again, personal opinion, which is exactly how it should be stated.

Now I'm done, but only because I have a flight to catch.

Sorry about the OT discussion.

No problem. Glad you guys got it out of your systems.

Get a design god to give it a eye candy GUI ; sell that one for $350 to the folks who have $$$ to burn (those guys driving the aston martins!!) .

I'll buy the plugg with the present , so called "train wreck" GUI ...

( controversial as the poly-Anna's face !!!).....

for $150!!!

I also don't understand the panty twisting about seeing somebody buy for less than you paid ; happens all the time !!!!Especially if yer an early adopter of high tech stuff. :x :P  :hihi:

Post

Anything bellow $200

$150 for a group buy is a good offer, i think. It is software, anyway. It will only spread even more its culture, besides.

Hey, Aether team. Wake uP! I think this should be turned into a great marketing campaign. There are dozes of companies doing that.

Ok, I didn't mean to be the evil guy ;D

Take your time. I'll tell my frieds about it and invite them to the poll also :)
I can't wait any longer for this group buy decision :-)

Congratz for the plugin. Great software!

I think this group buy once initiated will easily hit 200 it's already at 80 votes on KVR alone and there are many more forums out there that a news of a group buy can be spread into. I'll take $100, $150 is something to consider but if this is at $100, people who are interested won't hesitate, I can see it hitting 300+ at that price

Selfik wrote:$50 would be good price for a groupy...it's overpriced plug (my opinion)
+1, I can't believe the price of some of the stuff coming out atm, completely unrealistic in the current economic climate.
