@tattiemannie

Thanks for continueing the original challenge, it made me do things I had never done before
namely, make presets from scratch.
Right now I am at a point where I only want to use synth1 and get the most out of it without
useing external effects.
And I'm having a ball !

Thanks to kaiyoti for entering the challenge, and make it impossible for anyone else to win this thing :) :P

As soon as we figure out witch ( free ) synth we're gonna use for the next one....
...I'm in !

Let's see if we get more than six entries :-o

:D

@sinzero... I'd see things different, free fries with a purchase of burger does not make the fries free. In the end, money has to come out of my pocket in order to obtain. Not by how much the fries are worth. :D

sinzero, I dont dismiss the idea of doing a zebraCM comp in the future, but I do think there are some quality tools which are more accessible for now ... ie. easy free download. Also, I think the restriction factor is very much at the heart of the challenge.
Theres no prize for this comp as things stand, so its all about 'having a go', trying something out for a few days, learning what it can/cant do and pushing the boundaries of possibility within the agreed rules.
At the end of the day, it will be down to the general consensus among all who participate in these discussions, so all the more reason to argue your case.

At the same time, I hope you reconsider takin part in the other comps, and dont take it so seriously ... treat it as a bit of fun!

Cheers for your comments Yeager .... thats basically the kind of benefits I feel I got from the comp, likewise, I cant wait to get goin with the next one!
glad it was of benefit to you :)

kaiyoti, you're a Mac hater! I think thats agood reason to have more Mac lads enter .... maybe give you an edge you were lacking in the last comp :hihi:

... Oh and talking of prizes .... anyone who has read the 're up for the masses' thread will be aware that my father in law died this morning his health having taken a dramatic tumble over the past two weeks, and in the last few days especially .... so with all that goin on, I'm not as far on with the presets on Haku2 as I would like to be ... so be patient, I will get it done and PM all those due a copy with a download link.
I have no predictable routine at the mo, fitting in around people whos needs are greater, so while its possible I could finish it tomorrow if I time a good sprint, it may on the other hand take a wee while longer... bear with me :)

take your time Tattiemannie. family stuff like that by far takes precedence over the comp. we'll all be here when you return. :)
my condolences, btw. ain't it funny the way life spirals sometimes?

Thanks Circuit.23 .... but for reasons I wont bother to explain, I will be more available to get things up to date over the next week, and I'll be posted missing the week after due to funeral arrangements and geography.

So thats the voting over ... and we have a WINNER!!!!! :band: :band2:   :hyper:   :tu:

So kaiyoti, my heartfelt congratulations upon you! .. and well deserved for that piece of work.

Now that question I asked earlier is no longer premature, maybe you can PM me ( or post here if you like ) How you want your name to appear on the panel of Haku2!

Thanks once again to everybody who submitted, commented, supported, contributed, flamed, counterflamed, and generally made it happen and kept it happening!

I'm gonna spend the next couple of hours gettin some progress on those Haku2 presets .... unless something exciting comes up on this forum.... cos i'm such an addict!

Please continue to throw suggestions and comments into the mix ... I will be kicking off the next comp in the next 3 or 4 days, and unless there is a flurry of new issues, then the there will be no surprises in the setup!

Thanks to everyone, I enjoyed working on the piece and listening to all the other entries. Most importantly, thank you Tattiemannie for taking charge of the competition, it was very pleasant to have someone encouraging individuals for this competition.

"Kaiyoti" is fine :)

Cheers again kaiyoti :)

Re haku2 ... I got a good run at it, and I'm nearly there! got all the presets done, and included apprximations of the sounds I used in my track 'East of Asbonia' .... only hitch really is that Haku ( the one I used for the track ) is that little bit brighter than Haku2 due to the rescaling/taming I have employed in making the latter a tad more forgiving when it comes to pushing coincidental resonance and pitch values ... ie. suddenly and without warning plucking eardrums clear of skull!
But I think anyone with a tendency to tweak will find a surprising range of tonal options from Haku2.

So, I'm not gonna fuss much more, just gimme til after the weekend, and I believe I will be in a position to feel satisfied enough to deliver Haku2 to all participants.
And re the above ( as in the difference between haku2 and Haku ) I will also make Haku available to same folks .... like in exactly the condition it was in ( shit gui, unlabelled controls etc :hihi: ) when I put said track together.... just in case its potential brain impaling potential rawness is, in a twisted way, somehow appealing! :hihi:

OK guys, I'm reading back over this thread and compiling a set of rules for the next comp.

I can tell you now
... it will be an Oatmeal only comp.
... closing date will be 6th May.
... There will be no designated mac-equivalent synth competing alongside, as I dont see sufficient volume of input from Mac users to warrant such accomodation .... But if you can use oatmeal, via bootcamp or whatever, then welcome to the comp!

The rules will be posted up VERY soon, and having made, IMO, sufficient effort to take all contributions into account, these rules will be FINAL from the moment they appear!

I've cleared the folder used for the last comp so we can use it for the next one .... keep it simple eh?

If you need to access the tracks from the previous comp, you can find them here.

http://www.4shared.com/dir/14246401/55b ... h2009.html

If you would like your track removed from this 'archive' ... just gimme a shout and I'll remove it.

The competition folder, for anyone who has forgotten is ....
http://onesynthcomp.4shared.com/
.... and it is now open for uploads! ( for all you eager-beavers :hihi: ) ...

...and now I'm gonna see if I can get Haku2 finished in the next couple of hours.
