This isn't news... anyone CAN DJ, but it doesn't mean they'll be good at it.

Yes, but there are 300 people in this particular DJ school. Coming to a wedding, club or barbecue near you. :hihi:

Yeah anyone can spin other peoples records. I give the most credit to DJs that spin nothing but their own tracks. Meaning Tracks they created and produced themselves. Also to HipHop Scratch DJs because that actually takes a lot of skill and practice. Anyone can Beat-Match considering most of the software DJ Apps do it all for you. You can't be a Scratch DJ with just software it just won't work and sound authentic. I don't care who you are. If you want to be a Scratch DJ then get yourself a couple Technics Decks, Scratch Stylus and practice your ass off. 8)

I think you should only be able to DJ if you come from a long familial line of DJ's. Seems only fair.

didn't use to be the case. Unfortunately now, the technology has made dj'ing too easy.

Gotta make true live electronica; That is a serious challenge.

I'd like to see someone document their heritage of DJs. "Here's my great uncle Bernie with two Victrolas." :hihi:

It'd be difficult. Especially as there are so many DJs that are complete b*st*rds, tracing those unlinked parents will muddy the waters.

Actually, I lie. Quite a few DJs I've met aren't complete b*st*rds...

...They're mostly c*nts. :hihi:

If technology can make something too easy to be worth doing, it was probably a waste of time to do it in the first place... unless you just like to. Does that count for anything?

I tried my hand at doing a DJ-ish show for a while. On one hand it was a success (people enjoyed it) on the other they were some of the most boring shows I ever did. I even worked with my own loops that I made and performed live guitar/synth over it. Not for me.

Anyway, I'm pro schools like this. Anything that gets people more involved with music is a good thing. Few of the graduates will make a penny in a career as a DJ, but who cares? How many people here are feeding themselves solely on the money they make as a DJ? How many get more than 70% of their income from performing music?

Technology has broken down the barriers to making electronic music. It's a very good thing. People should participate in music in any way that they can or want to.
