I don't know man, I get some pretty tasty SHPN out of Zebra.
Here are some bass sounds I made:

I can't believe it took 9 pages before somebody trotted out the term "fanboy".kbaccki wrote:What would you expect? Your singular, 9-word summary of Zebra 2 was: "I dont see what all the fuss is about."tehlord wrote:And yes, I can't believe the response to a small comment either!
No details given. No "it's too hard to program", or "the factory presets sound like cheese", or "I don't like the GUI", or...
So of course you're going to get a response. The fanboys will do their fanboy thing, those that agree with you will submit their opinions, those that disagree will do so, those that want more info will ask for more info...
And lo and behold, you do have specific reasons for not liking it after all... so I say: good thing you were asked.

- 2 x Z2 Oscillator with fixed GeoMorph waveforms, fixed OSC FX to Symmetry (for PWM) and Filter (for osc timbre). Each Osc can be set to single/dual/quad mode.
1 x Z2 Noise module with its own low and hig pass filters built in.
1 x Z2 Filter (VCF, not the XMF one) with 19 sub-type modes available (The Zebra 2.3 filter types, not the newer 2.5 ones or the XMF models)
2 x Z2 Envelope with the advanced envelope settings available from the "more Env" tab at the bottom.
3 x Z2 LFO including stepped mode (2 regular LFOs, 1 global LFO)
1 x Z2 ModFX effect module (a Chorus, Phaser, or a Corus/Phaser hybrid effect)
1 x Z2 Delay effect module
1 x Z2 Reverb module
The signal path is hardwired to:
[OSC1]->[OSC2]->[NOISE]->[VCF]->[MIX & FX]
The only hardwired modulation is LFO1 to OSC1 and OSC2 vibrato. Anywhere in the screenshot you see a knob or a box with "...", "ModWhl", "EnvX", "LFOX" is a modulation destination.
Playmodes are poly, legato, retrigger.
All presets created with ZebraCM are loadable into Z2 and you can expand on the original sound with Z2's set of modules and effects.
You should check out the soundsets in the free library under ZebraCM. You can even load these presets into a demo version of Zebra2 to see the signal path and OSC waveforms if you like.
Hope this answered your question.

If you didn't tell me those were Z2 I would have thought you spent a few weeks circuitbending something with a soldering iron.

The first comes from the "33 Zany Zebra patches" bank (either "kitty litter" or "eat dirt") the second one comes from Black and White and Red (it's a variation on the "Hearty" patch).
Glad you liked them.

I think these 2 examples pretty much make my point. I love the brunette bass, it perfectly shows how Zebra can add that 'natural' sound to it, there's something in it that really reminds me of a bassguitar snare.justin3am wrote:I don't know man, I get some pretty tasty SHPN out of Zebra.

Also, it shows that even though that dirt example pretty much is the best 'dirty', 'crunchy' example I've heard Zebra make, it still isn't very 'crunchy' in my opinion. I've been comparing it for a while with that Sylenth crunchiness to find out what it is (like for example that part 57-64 in the Adam Van Baker soundset 2 example on Lennard's main page: http://www.lennardigital.com/modules/home/ ) and it seems that it's got definately something to do with something in the high end of the spectrum, Sylenth1 seems a bit 'fuller' there somehow, causing more 'bite'.
Anyway, listen for yourself I'm sure you'll hear what I mean.

I know exactly what you mean and it's those qualities you described that makes Zebra so well suited for what I do. If I want something 'crunchier' or more aggressive I run my V-Synth or Evolver through the Eurorack modular.thespecialist wrote:I think these 2 examples pretty much make my point. There are many things that Sylenth does that I really like, it does Roland like sounds very well. The thing is I have a Roland synth that does those sounds even better. My biggest problem with Sylenth though isn't the sound (which I actually like a lot), it's the lack of flexibility. If you check out the preset banks I did for Zebra you'll understand what I mean.
I did check out the demos for Adam's Sylenth presets by the way. While his sounds are not really my thing, I must say that I am impressed.

No-one has mentioned that the excellent signal quality of Zebra means you can get great results when sent to quality fx processors. Camels and zebras were meant for each other.

plus great range of quality sounds, realtime playability, reasonable price, solid developer with ongoing development that listens to users, no C/R or dongle etc. How many free updates have there been with useful new features! That is real value.aaastronomer wrote:modularitytehlord wrote:I dont see what all the fuss is about.
