Ah, that's it. I believe this was part of that infamous 6 hour conversation he had with Mark Twain that produced almost all worthwhile quotations in the universe. Strangely, the specifics this conversation are largely dependent on which side of the Atlantic you find yourself on; it's a sort of international dateline and wormhole for quotation attributions. But I suppose, as Aesop famously said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."normal wrote:pfft ...justin3am wrote: "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." everyone knows it was oscar wilde ...
it was right after he said :

Well, he initially was issuing the challenge to me I believe, and he didn't even acknowledge nor accept my response at all either.vurt wrote:cmon, he did ask for a few days to find the beat...vespers75 wrote:Indeed...he disappeared. well, yeah, i just couldnt hlp myself when he said "any genre"
and its always good to spread a little TG around.
i dont think your particular choice fits in with his idea of any genre, any genre means "elctronic music", apparently.

True, but...music made by electric guitars with active pickups and amplifiers/effects processors with internal circuits would qualify as "electronic" music, no?vurt wrote:

His intial challenge didn't specify electronic music either; he didn't mention that until a few posts later. Regardless, the TG style track would've been interesting, I'm sure.

can you record me four or 5 mins of tuning a radio.
it has to be a non digital radio (damn useless f**king things) and i dont mind if you tune in and stay with a channel or bypass channels quickly and stick with between station fuzz, or any mixture of all of this
go on, it could be fun

which is part of what many of us have been saying all along.Jafo wrote:It occurs to me that if you can define -- i.e., fully understand -- something, it's no longer experimental
while ive been away from the thread ive been thinking about it, and my conclusion after listening to much of the "experimental" music available is that the one thing that connects it all is teh fact it doesnt neccassarilly follow the tried and tested rules of its given form. while progressive could describe what is happening, it s my opinion that progressive would need a direction, which again "experimental" doesnt have.
so where does this bring me, "freeform" seems to be the most applicable term i can find that allows for all the definitions without confining it too tightly.
