Why is Sonar still treated like the underdog?

To counter all the negativity in this thread, I'll just add that for my money, Sonar is the best DAW on the market. After spending more than a decade with Opcode StudioVision and its predecessors, I spent the next decade bouncing around from one host to another, searching for something which would work as well as SV. Orion, Reason, Fruity, Logic (PC vesion), Nuendo (which I use at work), Acid, energyXT, Live, Reaper... I've tried 'em all (and what a big waste of money that was!
). Finally, I arrived at Sonar, and found the workflow very much to my liking. Perhaps I'm not as much of a power user as some, but the Acid-like way Sonar handles audio, combined with a more robust overall toolset really works for me. And I haven't found it to be more buggy than any of the aforementioned apps.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

I think the answers already given by others are quite reasonable and near the mark - it's Windows-only, mainly known in the US, and has a stigma from its early versions.neverfall wrote: "Why is Sonar still considered the underdog when hosts are so obviously copying/stealing ideas from one another?" I'm ASSUMING that Sonar has finally come head to head with Cubase. So as the OP asked...your thoughts?

Fixed what? Insert "Ableton Live" then insert....
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Live8up/
Well shit don't fix what ain't broken you heard? Live is marketed as both a sequencing and a Live Performance/DJ tool soooo....get back to me on what exactly SONAR HAS DONE FOR CAKEWALK to warrant a homerun feature list considering...
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SONAR8Pro/ seems an awful like its finally caught up to...
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Cubase5/
After what...7 versions and finally dropping that DX shit in what this verion? Last version? It has right? Umm...midi preview IS now fixed right?
It is my inference that for YEARS granted we both have 20/20 sight and common sense that researching Sonar...and Cubase...or even Pro Tools has NEVER...EVER truly led to Sonar setting itself apart from the rest.
whyterabbyt wrote: And yet it does, sufficiently enough for me.
Not enough for me and apparently not enough for anyone who still considers Sonar the underdog for quite obvious reasons....
Had you been so easily ready to list such features as oh let's say...
"The Environment"..."Warping"..."Known for its step sequencer and beloved piano roll"...I would have simply agreed and thought, "Well shit I've missed out of something HUGE here. I could really benefit from going back to Sonar".
whyterabbyt wrote: Why the hell would I care about trying to get you to agree? I dont give a toss what you use, or why.
I did pick Sonar over the others for at least two of the factors I mentioned, which were sufficiently HUGE for me, at the time I was making the decision.
And, just so you know, none of the 'features' you mention are 'HUGE' in my opinion.
Yet you gave enough shit and piss to comment on MY QUESTION yet you STILL CAN'T...AHEM....WON'T answer the OP's question. The next time you get that not so fresh feeling and figure you'd get all cute with a response try answering the INITIAL question proposed in a thread to begin with...even if you choose to ANSWER THE QUESTION WITH A QUESTION as I did.
WHAT I WILL LET YOU KNOW is no matter how far...how long...you wanna go back and forth...you will NEVER be able to argue that for as many years as Sonar has played CUBASE'S BITCH....
whyterabbyt wrote: Actually I could argue that quite easily, despite your somewhat AOLish reliance on capitalisation.
BUT...YOU...WON'T...CAUSE...YOU WILL FAIL.
I don't see why you just didn't say..."Well shit the copy protection ALONE sets it apart".
whyterabbyt wrote: Because I said something else. Amazing, huh?
Amazing? Not so much as you're inability to answer a simple question without resorting to..."Well it's 64-bit and that means plenty because....". Look at the feature list on Sweetwater's Sonar's ad and look how low that shit comes down on the list. Not exactly the AMAZING feature you're making it out to be huh?
If you're convinced that you're list screams, "MUST-HAVE, INNOVATIVE, OR GAME CHANGING" to show that Sonar does indeed set itself apart then who am I to argue with your opinion?
whyterabbyt wrote: Some disingenuous asshole on the internet? Sorry, INTERNET.
Yeah I'm an asshole. You're not an asshole. You're just some KVR personality who scares the shit out of a few peacemaker heads on this site...but I'm not one of them.
So if we can't have peace...we can have answers right? It's simply a matter of answering the OP's question right? You're gonna keep running from THAT question now are ya? At least respect the man's thread enough to give him an answer instead of worrying about my feelings.

Gee, you could think of the one obvious exception. It would have been slightly more compelling if you hadnt jumped on the easy one, TBH.neverfall wrote:Fixed what? Insert "Ableton Live"
fixed that too.enough for me and apparently enough for anyone who doesnt considers Sonar the underdog for quite obvious reasons....
which question? the one that's fallacious? it doesnt merit answering. Or the other one, the one you keep ignoring?Yet you gave enough shit and piss to comment on MY QUESTION yet you STILL CAN'T...AHEM....WON'T answer the OP's question.
The next time you feel the urge to tell me what to do, try and not be selective as to what the OP was actually asking, okay? good boy.The next time you get that not so fresh feeling and figure you'd get all cute with a response try answering the INITIAL question proposed in a thread to begin with...even if you choose to ANSWER THE QUESTION WITH A QUESTION as I did.
here it is. have fun coping.
the OP wrote:I know we have a bunch of Sonar users here. So tell us what it is about Sonar that you love, and what features do you think it does better than other DAW's?
Wow, you can even make up stuff I didnt say.Amazing? Not so much as you're inability to answer a simple question without resorting to..."Well it's 64-bit and that means plenty because....".
Have you got the 2001 ads handy then?Look at the feature list on Sweetwater's Sonar's ad and look how low that shit comes down on the list. Not exactly the AMAZING feature you're making it out to be huh?
I knew that bit. You're not an asshole.
I did. Its just a shame you're being too deliberately disingenuous to remember the question properly. So if we can't have peace...we can have answers right? It's simply a matter of answering the OP's question right? You're gonna keep running from THAT question now are ya? At least respect the man's thread enough to give him an answer instead of worrying about my feelings.

Yeah, had Cakewalk named this thing Pro Sonar, it'd be an entirely different story!Hink wrote:well the first question contains it's own answer "pro tools" and FruitlyLoops no longer existswhyterabbyt wrote:"Why do professionals only use ProTools?" and "why does noone make good music in FruityLoops?", and other gems, presumably.spaceman wrote:We don't always know where hosts are going,
