:) OK, any synth that isn't an exact clone of the TB-303.

Similar bassline in this track:

starting around 1:20

Different bass sound, but same melody. Looks like Royksopp got inspired.
Wicked swedish track btw!

I really like that sound, there is a new mix of an old chemical bros track "Hey Boy Hey Girl (Soulwax '2 Many DJ's' Remix), with an awsome bass that sounds a lot like that one.

Cheers,

Karl :hihi:

I was able to make a sound very similar to that with Istvan kaldor's Rotopuker, but I can't seem to find a working link for it.

edit: here it be..

Really great sound!

I don't know how to make this sound exactly, but I know you can get those sorts of rubber sound outs of Massive; select an empty one oscillator preset and choose the 'wicked' wavetable and set the pitch an octave lower, set the 'Wt position' at around 12 o'clock . Then use a 4p high pass filter to cut off the lower frequencies and play the sound in the bass register. This gives the crackling character that sound has as well.

I know it's not really the sound, but it can be a starting point for where to search. With all the additional options Massive has to offer I think you can get pretty close, there might be more wavetables that give the same type of sounds, you have a filter left for formant style stuff, insert effects, main effects... I'm sure Massive can do it.

Good luck!

Sounds to me like its just an ordinary saw timestreched quite heavily and sequenced in a sampler.... Maybe a bit of delay on the timestreching during the attack to still give it the um, er, attack....
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Sounds like a heavily distorted and EQed 303.

Just did this with my Microcon II overdriving the console preamp + EQ:

You need to get the filter near oscillation and adjust envelope and cutoff correctly. My example lacks the specific squelshyness though, that can only be achieved by a diode ladder filter (which the 303 has got).

Thanks for the link to the earlier thread. (I searched "royksopp", with no accents, before starting this new thread, but the older thread spells it "røyksopp" and didn't show up.)
If you like 80s retro sounds, check out my latest tune…

Good find! That thread even has a nice argument running through it ;)

Seems like it's not so hard to do after all but I do wonder if the original has some kind of auto-tune on it to follow the vocal like that?

Peace,
Andy.

Awesome song and video! I have no f**king clue what the singer is saying(dont speak, ummmm uh swedish!?!?)

1:20 eh? sounds like a saw wave thru overdrive with resonance automation.

and the lowest bass is a square wave thru overdrive.

use overdrive, not distortion(or fuzz).

No problem. I actually believe there is an even older thread on the subject but couldn't find it. Yep, it's a pretty cool sound :hihi:
