I think part of this has to do with the fact that the parameter range on Redline Reverb was purposely left wide open, whereas on many other reverbs the parameters are limited to ranges that provide a "good" sound by default. This freedom gives you the possibility to create weird, more special effect-like sounds (as some of the presets demonstrate) but also, yes, not especially pleasing reverbs. Freedom never comes free I supposettoz wrote:Yes it can be smoothed out more, yes it CAN, don't get me wrong. But it's too easy to make this reverb sound that way IMO. i COULDN'T get the apple matrix reverb to reproduce that.
And just out of curiosity: since many users have commented on the R66/Redline Reverb engine sounding very "Lexicon like" in nature, what is your opinion of the various Lexicon (hardware) reverbs? Just trying to understand you better.

Sort of like separate "traditional" and "surprise me!" modes? Interesting idea...ttoz wrote:it could but at the same time i am thinking maybe you could have a mode which reduces the broad range.. like the concept of a crossover in a multi band lol... like a "limited frequency" but in this case a "limited parameter" so even though the knob movement will be there, moving it one millimetre doesnt have the vast effect of what it does, maybe you're right, the jumps are too harsh.
shit i am shit at explaining myself dammit, i hope you understand what i mean.

ttoz, if it was right around that time give or take a year then I believe the possible models are covered in the preset dropdown on the Redline. If it was about five grand (in Australian funds?) then perhaps it might have been a pcm90 or something.
in terms of current top models, one might say perhaps there is the pcm96, bricasti, and eventide, as well as top models from tc electronics, and... what am i missing?
just looking at that list alone, i think it's safe to say that they are all different.
as far as the not pro-sumer/hobbyist level hardware units, my own main experience is with the lex's and with the eventides.
i don't think i would compare the redline to an eventide; that feeling/reaction hasn't crossed my so far. but i do think it's in the direction of the lex's, specifically it kinda makes me think of a pcm70. unfortunately, i don't have a 70 against which to compare it directly.

Believe me, this guy never used a expensive lexicon reverb.i am racking my brains out trying to remember the exact model... it was in 1998... i will find it in the old studio invoices but THAT thing rocked.
Every owner is proud of it. Every owner knows the name of his lexicon reverb.
