Midi Automation

Trying to figure out how or if I can do this. I have a midi note sequence in a midi file that is a pulse. I would like to trigger it, and have it start loud and then fade out over time. Can I use a midi file for automation of the gain control to reduce the volume over time?

I havn't tried this with midi but I find the question interesting...
Simple to set up and use auto fade in and fade out functions would be useful not only in midi but in the audio path too. Many HW keyboards have such simple - yet effective - features...

+1 for smooth fade in/out. Actually -after a quick overthinking +100 for adjustable fade out!
What comes to the question about automation.
- Personally I would edit the loop/pulse in external program (REAPER) and use the prepared file in Cantabile.

Sasu - another great idea - thanks. I just rendered the midi file using my other sequencer to a wave file, and added it as a media file to my session. Works perfectly.

It still is a good idea to prepare some things beforehand, while I really want to be able to do as much as possible live and on the fly.
You could have the start of the file without the fade an have that part looping and switch the loop off when you want the fade to begin. This way you still have control over the time that the fade out kicks in.
I am always searching ways to have an extra chorus or solo or ending in the song when I need and not to be tied with a pre set form.

While thinking this over I wondered wether there is a simple VST plugin we can put in a (master) rack to get live fade in / fade out... by assigning simply two button controllers to trigger that?
Anyone heard something of such a VST...? Otherwise it should be written...
