dumb question

so ive been producing allot with my production partner and he is allot more familar with music theory than i am.. my question is in electronic dance music being minmal, techno, prorgressive house, or just house music at what bars should i make the breaks. i know everything should be on a 16 beat loop but what ive been doing solo so far is starting a small intro break around 1 min that at 127 bpm where do i arrange all the rest of the breaks at

I used to have the same problem, my DJ mate would say all the breaks are off, doesn't fit the standard, which made it more difficult for him to line up the track when mixing. This is how I fixed the problem:
Import a track in to your host and line it up so the tempo matches and all the beats fall exactly on the beat markers from start to finish. Use the marker system or whatever is available to mark out where the intro stops / track starts, and each successive mini-break and full breakdown occurs, and how long they last. After a couple of goes, you'll see a pattern emerge. Just use the same pattern for your tracks.
One you have the "rules" down, you can start breaking them in creative ways.
