I'm trying to configure a midi pedal board I just bought (a used Digitech control 8)to browse presets.
On my board there are 5 buttons taged from CC21 to CC 25, plus two buttons (up and down) with nothing written on it, plus an ewpression pedal with nothing written on it. There is also a "Channel" mode and an "pedal cc number" mode to chose from.
Now the question: what do I have to do to make this pedal board work to browse up and down the presets bank ?

I'm not familiar with the particular board you mentioned but I did lookup it's user manual and as best I can tell the up/down pedals send program change events and the others send CC's.
So there's a number of ways you could set this up (and I'm assuming you're trying to control the presets of an effect).
1. In the plugin slot's Tools drop down, enable "Enfore MIDI Program Changes". This will cause the effect to switch presets when it receives a program change event. Most effects don't do this automatically because they're not setup to receive MIDI - this option works around that limitation.
2. A MIDI Controller Assignment of Program Change to Global Plugin Controls - Select Plugin
3. A MIDI Controller Assignment from the other CC pedals to Global Plugin Controls - Next and Previous preset.
4. Similar to 2 and 3, but for Rack -> Plugin -> Select Preset or Rack -> Plugin -> Next/Previous preset.
There's probably other ways too but these are the ones that come to mind.

Thank you for answering so quick ! I didn't managed to make it work. By the way, it is the presets of an instrument that I would like to browse. I tried the "enforce midi program change" without success.

Which edition of Cantabile are you using?
The enforce midi program change should work in any edition. If not, the program change events mustn't be getting to the plugin slot. Check your connection etc...
For controller assignments you'll need Solo or Performer. In this case, when your press the pedals, do you see the events being displayed in the MIDI Controller Assignments window?

Hi Brad,
I've downloaded the demo of perfomer version, I was on the "lite" (free) version previously.
Everything is working fine ! except I can't use the up / down pedals, but I use the CC ones instead. This due to my hardware control I guess.
Anyway it's very useful to have all those assignable parameters, the learn function and all at hand. I really think Cantabile is the best tool one can have beside of a bigger editor...
Cheers

Hi Laurent,
I'd be interested to hear if the MIDI assignments window reacts in anyway when you press the up/down pedals.

No it doesnt.
Only reacts with one of the 5 other buttons (labeled with CC) and the expression pedal.
I am not at all friend with the midi and datas exchange protocols and all that, but I am sure that the up / down buttons sends something ! as it works for Guitar Rig preset management for instance. Obviously not a midi message, but what else could it be ?
Something else you would know: with the CC labeled buttons, to switch back after next preset I have to press the forward pedal twice , and only on the second press it moves to previous patch. I'm not sure I'm very clear about that, but let me know if you're interested to a complete description.
Cheers,
Laurent
