(didn't intend to be frustrated or incorrect, just don't know it better since i'm still quite new to cubase. still i think that screensets are just a partial remedy for guys like me that do not have huge screens. but yeah, that's of course not cubases fault
Impressed with Cubase- am I crazy? What impresses you?

Oooh, looks like C5 is going to arrive earlier than expected.
Now... do I buy a new USB hub, or make do without the printer for a while?

The solution you are looking for is here.....bduffy wrote:Hey Fredo, I just got off the horn with Waves, and the guy told me that my loading times are "normal", and they only have a fix specifically addressing Waveshell 6.0.7 and Cubase (PC) 5.0.1. I take it you're running PC, then?Fredo Gevaert wrote:Yes, that is a problem with the Waves Bundle. Besides the long startup times, you will also notice an increased memory usage.bduffy wrote:You know what I don't like about Cubase? Really, really, really long startup times - even on a modern, fast machine. I mean, seriously: over one full minute for me to get working! Or is that just because I have a Waves bundle?
Waves has released a patch to solve these problems, though they do not advertise it. You should get in contant with Waves Support and they will supply instructions to download a new version of the 6.0.7 Waveshell-VST file from their FTP site. Then have to trash the "Vst2xBlacklist, Vst2xPlugins, VstPlugInfo" in the Nuendo/Cubase App Data folder along with the Waves prefs located at "C:\Documents&Settings\your user\Application Data\Waves Audio\Preferences"
HTH
Fredo
Basically, he was like Jeff Probst on Survivor: "I got nothin' for ya". Actually, he was quite nice and said that they're fully aware of customer dissatisfaction with the Waveshell paradigm, and indicated they're doing something about it. I hope so. This "loading the everything into memory" has got to stop. Not that I've noticed said memory hit, but it's disturbing, nonetheless.
Sorry Brent! Derailed again!

Funnily enough, when I type in "Gearslutz" in Google, one of the search suggestions that comes up is "Gearslutz Fredo". Seriously it does - there must be some pearls of wisdom on there that people are searching for a lot

Hey! Guess what? My box is now arriving TOMORROW instead of Thursday. Hopefully yours will come pretty quickly as well. But these are always good surprises, aren't they? YAY!fandango wrote:Oooh, looks like C5 is going to arrive earlier than expected.

P.S.- I love Fedex. They actually try to get packages there as quickly as possible. UPS always just tries to get it there on the estimated delivery date.

The last box I got from Fed-Ex had a nice note (read: bill) from "HM Customs and Excise" attached. This is why I'm ordering from within the UK this time.
(that, and the weak UK pound)

Well, I should say they are great for inside the US shipping. I NEVER ship using them overseas. They are ten times more expensive than using the postal service, both UPS and Fedex. But when receiving shipments, I'm always glad when it says FedEx.fandango wrote:The last box I got from Fed-Ex had a nice note (read: bill) from "HM Customs and Excise" attached. Tips for "dongle virgins" with more than one computer that you plan on using Cubase 5 on...
Don't (please, trust me) plug in your dongle directly repeatedly. It's an accident waiting to happen. The accident being the one or two times you don't pull it straight out and bend the tip, and damage the casing and/or the pcb.
Find a short USB extender cable and plug your dongle into that, then plug that into your computer(s) and use that extender cable to pull it out when moving it.
Mine is taped to the extender with duct tape. I did this *after* the dongle case came completely apart from multiple ins/outs on my 3 different systems.

It also makes it harder to lose when it's not on the lanyard.

I carry both a USB extentder and a small 4 port USB hub with me. I never plug it in directly(I have three different dongles currently). I figure that if I accidentally break something in my USB port, it is better that it's the extender rather than the dongle itself. This is on a laptop of course.

Hey Oxy man... we all get frustrated and we all are wrong from time to time (though few will admit it publiclyOxytoxine wrote:(didn't intend to be frustrated or incorrect, just don't know it better since i'm still quite new to cubase. still i think that screensets are just a partial remedy for guys like me that do not have huge screens. but yeah, that's of course not cubases fault
I agree with what you say above, the media bay presents a HUGE amount of information so having a small screen is not a really good idea if you plan to make regular use of it. A wide screen comes in handy. That screenie I posted was from a wide screen laptop so not really a huge screen.
It's funny though, these Internet daw conversations seem to be gradually moving away from "...X can't do this beotch! Y can't do that beotch!" to... "Hey dude, how do you do X in Y?" Which is a much more pleasant and informative conversation even if you can't do X in Y.
Nobody who can do everything they currently need to do (see the legions of happy Reaper users) even cares, nor should they, what some other daw does unless they feel they need (or could really use) a particular thing... like quick swipe comping.
Good luck to you Oxy.

I should be impressed... they basically wrote the book on DAWs. I just don't have the patience. I think StudioOne would be more up my ally if it was out!
