anyway, whatever this rumor is about reason never having audio, i doubt it was said by propellarhead. for that matter, whos to stop someone from changing there mind? we all sell out everyday, unless of course you are a hobo eating bagels out of garbage cans.

True that.griels wrote:Well, not necessarily fans so much as core constituents. kvraudio.com was, after all, initially called kvr-vst.com (and the current remit 'supporting Open Standard Audio Plugins' still explicitly covers this), so there's a very large established base of people who base their music production around VST plugins present on the forums here, and people decrying VST plugins in favour of other devices are likely to experience at least a smidgen of opprobrium. Not that there's any evidence of Propellerheads, or even anything but the lunatic fringe of fans doing such a thing, but the presence of effects to which external audio (say, from, VSTis) can not be directly routed might indeed be interpreted as a snub, rather than a design choice, which seems a much likelier but more prosaic reality.blank/diod wrote:Because KVR is the epitome of VST fandom and Propellerhead Software are the kings of VST support refusal. How could they not be a nuisance?fridtjof wrote:Why are people on this forum so negative to this company anyways?
Propellerheads stuff is always of interest to me (although I'm certainly not any more of a fan of it than VST stuff) so I look forward to more details with much anticipation!
VST and ReWire share some ancestry, though.
1994-96 Steinberg was the exclusive distributor for ReCycle, and Marcus of Propellerheads worked one some stuff in Cubase (specifically, the master track editor).
In 1996, Props and Steinberg collaborated on the ReWire implementation in Cubase. Steinberg thought the whole thing was a neato idea so they decided to make their own "rewire" by adding VSTi hosting capabilities. Emagic, Steinberg, MOTU and possibly a couple of others implemented ReWire in their products. Only Steinberg had VSTi at this point.
In 1998, Charlie Steinberg and Gerhard Lengeling (former partners turned rivals) smoked the peace pipe (literally!) at the Frankfurt MusikMesse in celebration of Emagic's decision to implement VSTi. And that's how the west was won, really. VSTi became the primary industry standard, ReWire became a secondary industry standard.
Things might have turned out differently if ReBirth didn't have its own sequencer, but Props' idea was that two separate apps with their own sequencers should be able to run in tandem with a zero-latency pipeline for audio and MIDI between them. They weren't big on the smaller program being completely absorbed by the host.
ReWire got a partial revenge when Digidesign announced that they would implement ReWire in ProTools. This was big since they had categorically refused to implement any third-party stuff, relying on RTAS rather than VST/AU.

In my dreams, i record audio, the software slices it automatically (like recycle), detects polyphonic pitches (like melodyne), transforms audio variations into CC data and allows me to treat audio like MIDI in a complete, unified multitrack environment with easy tempo changes and "musically correct" transpositions ...
If propellerhead did this, i'm sold!
Did they?

That would indeed be marvelous.Sotiris wrote:In my dreams, i record audio, the software slices it automatically (like recycle), detects polyphonic pitches (like melodyne), transforms audio variations into CC data and allows me to treat audio like MIDI in a complete, unified multitrack environment with easy tempo changes and "musically correct" transpositions ...

Seriously, that counter says a day left to go, but they said today was the announcement day. I'm confused...

Monday midday is when the press embargo is over. I'm not sure what's stopping anyone attending the workshops from spilling the beans (assuming they see the details), but I don't think any major websites will until Monday.
