This is indeed a dealbreaker for 99% of people, I can't use my Virus TI with it which means I'll be forced into ReWire anyway. But I'm still quite interested to see how it works since I love Reason's workflow.

Just out of curiosity:

1) Can the program do elastic audio? Thus allowing users to fix timing of material by repositioning transients (as done in Ableton Live)?
2) Can loops be chopped up (Recycled) within the program itself?

Do I need to upgrade my Reason 3 to 4 in order to use it with Record?

I'd be much more excited if it'd been released before I bought a Mac Pro, CPU efficiency is not very important for me anymore. Still $150 is a pretty good deal for the Line 6 and Time Stretching alone if they are really good.

Hope it supports multi cores/processors.

In all seriousness, I'll just wait. I remember waiting for a Reason 4 features list, read them and went: "wait, an instrument, arpeggiator and a sequencer? Pfff..." But it turned out ok, didn't it?

So most of you guys hate reason because it doesn't support VSTs? lol I reckon it'd suck if it did. I love my VSTs and Live is my host of choice, but reason is still incredibly useful through re-wire if you know how to use it. Even the sequencer I like, it just seems to be how I 'think' about arranging songs. It's nice how it never crashes, and it has some very tidy programming.

Rewire is soooo easy to use.
1. Open reason
2. New audio track in live
3. Input: Reason.
4. Hit arm record

It takes 20 seconds at absolute most. That's longer than inserting a VST but IMO it's worth it for the amount of creative audio goodness.

I find I can make some really good tracks even in reason alone, although I do this rarely these days...I guess whatever suits the individual. Normally I use reason as a scratch pad for the beginning stages of writing a song, I do basic melody, rhythm, arrangements etc. etc. It might just be me but I can get the ideas in my head down a lot quicker than any other program. The amount of possible sounds I can milk out of it is ridiculous, maybe some of you guys should try tweaking rather than just presets.

Hopefully record is good. If they can come up with some unique ways to deal with recording/arranging audio it's a good thing. I'll wait and see.

the thing I don't like about that video(and that's why I'm not expecting much from this software) is the fact that the guy who is presenting the software went from "It records audio" to "ayayaya, just look at that nice gui" right away - OK bro, it's a nice interface, but seriously, who gives a damn about that stuff anymore ... show me some functionality, where and what are the NEW features? are you guys at propellerhead co. reinventing that wheel already or what??? and I was expecting so much of after that trailer ... I was thinking it is something with a vast modular capabilities of Reason, but with the nice extra options and sound of Karma Modular, something in between, with new effects, new drum machine, support for recording audio, VST, full support for multiprocessors, analysis tools, I could almost touch my dream software and than they do this to me ... disappointing is all I have to say ...

well, for me it's a no brainer. A better mixer, audio-recording with Reason's effects, comping, a good elastic audio. I never needed vst(i) in Reason.

I was hoping for at least one ground-breaking feature.
I'll have to wait for the "official" release,
but i'm beginning to feel dissapointed.
I enjoy using Reason 4,
but i also love working with
FL studio and Cubase 5.
If Record does not offer at least one serious feature
MORE AND ABOVE of what i already have,
i Refuse to buy it.
And the thought of another hardware dongle is negative,
but not "terminal" ...

What we see here is another example that music software
developers do not know where to go next.
No new innovation,
just more of the same repackaged
and polished.
The only real promising "next day" developments
are, IMO, polyphonic pitch detection from Melodyne,
sound "bank management" through Kore and Media Bay
and alternative hardware controllers for MIDI input
by various researchers (touchscreens hold real promise ...)

If Record does not host/connect VSTis, well ...
they "missed the train" again!
