Nope. Read #10.
This is indeed a dealbreaker for 99% of people
But you can unrack the rack, so you could maybe at least pretend that you're using VSTs?
Apparently you can do that in Live already using the External instrument thingy though I don't know how

I hope the are already working on their next project, because I like them a lot and I want them to be successful. This would have been great when I first bought Reason many years ago. The sales person at the music store when I bought Reason said "here get Ableton Live 1.5 at the same time, you can rewire and have audio in too" What a great setup! Ableton Live 1.5 with Reason 1.5 rewired to it!

Those were the days. I guess they are here again with ReCord just with more marketing and far less need.

Seems out of character that the props would blow their trumpet with a flashy countdown just for a beta..
I'm not saying that you are wrong I just think its a departure for the props who have always seemed to keep things under wraps until final release...
That's what I seem to remember from Reason 3 and 4 at least.. ;)

I've noticed that there are prices for Record, by itself, and as an upgrade/bundle with Reason. One thing that really doesn't make sense to me, is how would Record be of any use without Reason, if it relies on Reason for it's effects devices?

Other than the Line 6 guitar and bass amp models and SSL style EQ and compression, are there any basic effects included? Being a closed system, without the ability to host VSTs, makes it very crippled, if not downright useless, by itself.

Which brings up the question as to why these features weren't just built into Reason as the 5.0 upgrade.

I can appreciate that they might want to keep Reason simple, for those that have no need for audio recording, but if that is the case, why not branch Reason off into 2 different versions? That would seem like a much less convoluted way to achieve the same goal.

Very strange business decisions IMO.

No it's not Reason 5. It's Reason 5 released in two parts. :hihi: "We told you we'd never add audio support to Reason, didn't we?"

Just saw the video.... what's the fuss about? Intuitive? Less mouse clicks? Looks like a normal audio recorder to me :-o Time will tell. K

Maybe there is just this contract with Steinberg from back in the 90's, in which is agreed to deliberate the props from all other contracts with Steinberg, for the then up-coming 'Reason' is not allowed to have audio-recording.
