It has NOTHING to do with audio recording!
Record is an audio recording program, says Ernst, but "This program has nothing to do with audio. It's all about music… We wanted this to be about music making."
It's a "music making" program!

I've brought up this possibility numerous times on this and other forums, and have been belittled as being a "conspiracy theorist", but it's the only thing that really makes any sense.

I just sold a company this January and part of the agreement included a 5 year "non compete" clause, so I know first hand that such agreements do indeed exist in the real world, and they have nothing to do with conspiracies, just normal business procedure.

Steinberg distributed Propellerhead products in their early days, so it's not much of a stretch for them to have agreed to a "non competition" clause when they parted ways. Especially if Propellerheads wanted to terminate their contract early and the clause was requested by Steinberg as a concession. Many contracts, such as this, also bar the individual parties from disclosing such details. It would probably only last for 3-5 years, which is the customary time period, from my understanding, for these sorts of agreements. Didn't Cubase 5 just come out recently? It might also have been tied to a certain version number of Cubase.

Anyway, my 2 cents... for what it's worth.

OK so it's not a DAW - it's a wrapper app for Reason that enables Reason to be recorded in audio and modules to be decoupled from the rack - is that it or can it also record external audio?

Seriously, it seems like a great idea! It allows me to easily record audio and if I want to apply effects (other than the few included?) I just rewire it into another recording app, Cubase or Logic and apply it there. And if I want to add some synths & sampling I just open an instance of Reason, maybe a 303 so I rewire Rebirth to Reason. And slicing is so simple too, I just save the recording, open Recycle and slice, save and import it into Reason.

I know, I'm being very negative here as I don't even know what will be in it. But thats how their marketing strategy leaves me thinking.

On the longer YouTube video that I saw, before it was made private, they had a guitarist record some material into the program. So yeah, it's a DAW alright... a crippled closed system DAW that's virtually useless without Reason. Unless of course it does have at least some FX, as of yet not mentioned, like reverb, delay and chorus/flanger/phaser, built in.

I'm a guitarist and to be able to record guitar into a program! How did they think of that!

In a few years they plan to introduce a revolutionary new app called Rewind.

But it's not just any program. It allows you to "make music" unlike every other DAW out there that are instead focused on making china cups with flowery decorations for your aunt's tea parties. :hihi: Also, there's a huge countdown animation on the Prop's site and a video of people going "wow".

Beat that, Steinberg.

The count down is on...will the ball drop or have they drop the ball?

I'm on a roll...no punn intended.

The year: 2013

ReGurgitate: now with even bigger countdowns and the ability to host VST 4.3 instruments and FX. In a completely different program that can be almost totally integrated with Reason, of course. Yours for just $200.

Oh no! A business with a marketing strategy! How utterly disgusting. Where are all the software developing charity organizations when you need them?
