Even Propellerheads make a very strong claim about Reason being a 100% in the box solution. It can be misleading and is an attempt to disguise the lack of recording in Reason.

"All in one wonder"

"Reason is an infinitely expandable all-in-one music production environment, complete with its own realtime sequencer." That sounds like Sonar, Cubase e.t.c

Don't take my word for it read it for yourself on their own website.

To be fair to the Props they also call it a virtual Rack but clearly they also want to give the impression that it is indeed an "all in one" app which it clearly is not. They would be no ned for Record if that was the case.
Everyone I know that uses reason uses it in conjunction with another DAW like Live via rewire.:hihi:

Agreed. Pretty much my experience as well.

It seems though with version 4 the Props wanted the perception of Reason to match the likes of Sonar, Cubase e.t.c. some of the descriptions for Reason are definitely misleading.

Maybe Reason 5 within a year maybe will have more focus on the Racks and less info on it being "all in one"...then again maybe it will have a simple audio recording device.

33mins...(hopefully the hype will not backfire) it seems a great solution for Reason users so far but very little else so far IMO. Lets see.

Propellerhead rarely if ever claim that their products are the most powerful options available (unlike many other companies claim) - instead they focus on producing stuff that is really *cool* and has a WOW! factor.

From watching the longer video this morning, I think they have acheived that again with ReCord, and I'm now getting more excited about it. I have a long standing affection for Reason and its workflow, and for $150 Record will be a great upgrade to that (although obviously not a replacement for Cubase, my main DAW).

I also think that Record is set to be the most talked about music software release this year - there's going to be a huge buzz around this product. So for example I think it will prove immensely difficult for Presonus to launch their StudioOne around this time. Everyone is going to be talking about Record all year, and possibly not much else. Not necessarily because its brilliant (that remains to be seen of course)... but because it will be *cool* and will stand out in the crowd.

surely it all comnes down to whether the included fx are worth the entry fee. If those channel strips are good and the line 6 stuff too then it looks like an option for those who just want to record some stuff. The whole app is cheaper than the waves ssl plugs. And if you starting needing madder stuff then you can get reason and use the combinators.

I can see it working for people starting - although does it do midi ????
I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

The difference is that Studio One will be out before Record will be, so it will have a jump start. I highly doubt that Record will hinder the Studio One sales(keeping in mind that I haven't tried Studio One, but have only done that interview and seen public information).

Reaper, Pro Tools and probably some other also have this.
but note that Logic has it only since v8 and everyone had orgasm when they put it in, and it's Record 1.0 and I'm sure it will have many many innovations Logic and others will never have till it's going till v8.

pretty lame shit when someone say X and Y had it. is it a sin to implement something that works?
:idiot:

:x :D

Props had this concept in the works long before Logic 8 was out, but it's a typical situation where their long development cycle worked to their disadvantage. Kind of the same thing that happened with instant search in Windows; Microsoft demonstrated their version before Apple implemented Spotlight, but OS X has shorter time to market so they beat MS to it (and then Microsoft got accused of stealing their search from Spotlight, of course). Neither had stolen from the other -- it's a virtual impossibility due to the way development is planned and executed (features are usually locked down before development starts) -- they just had the same idea at roughly the same time.

Oh well, no biggie, and I've heard worse (like Reason being an Arturia Storm ripoff ). The important thing is that users benefit in the end, the pissing contest is of no particular use to anyone.

So many links floating about I was wondering what longer video you guys were talking about...

If anyone else is wondering here are two "Record" Videos...

Just watching them now...

You may well be right about that, and they are certainly aimed at different markets once you scratch the surface a little.

But in terms of availability and timing, I understood that the public beta of Record starts today... :?: A few months to generate a huge buzz, if so.

Presonus are alread running Studio One Beta IIRC and (not sure) but the Record beta might be for existing Reason owners only . If they open it up to anyone they would generate a lot more buzz from it.

In any case there would have to be much to buzz about initially. :hihi:

17 mins...

Yes, the beta starts today and the release is September 9th. For now, check the image links above! Hot off the press!

wow the screenshots are very nice. maybe it isn't that big hit for DAW users. but if you only use reason then record is very usefull

The mixer is one of the best looking I have seen but sadly not much else. If the Reason FX were a bit better hmmmm.

The small sliders on the mixer look interesting. Kind of a mini view browser for the mixer. Did I say the mixer looks *really* nice. :hihi: Just not much else over an above other apps for me. :(

Thaks for the pics Brent. :)

10 Minutes.

No problem. Unfortunately, due to being sick for a week, I'm behind on posting press releases. So I figured I would post all information here for you guys and get the release up tomorrow along with the many others I neglected. I hate sickness!
