Very true indeed. The Props say they want to make apps for musicians, not for engineers and technology for technologies' sake, which I think is true since Iget 10 times more productive when working in Reason and have 10 times more fun in the process.
An easy to use, high-quality recording and mixing app will get a lot of interest on the marked. I know it must piss off the gear-collectors around here, but Record might just not be targeted towards the audio gear forum dweller, which is about 5% or less of the market.

Dipped into Reason tonight for the first time in a year and managed to get a groove down that sounded great in no time at all. Takes me about 5-10x as long to get anything decent out of Live and my usual plug-ins. Had so much more fun in the process too. What's happening to me! :-o

You know, if racing WAS your priority in life, then its not so ridiculous comparing BMWs to Audis and arguing about car specs. If music production is your priority, its also not so ridiculous arguing about VSTs and hosts
Just sayin' ;)

For the average Joes, sure, drive your Datsun and fire up your Reason/Record.
Best of luck hehe

Then, should we stay on our bike ? :P

Yeah, it reminds me of the threads on MacRumors after Microsoft had started running their "Laptop Hunters" ads. To make a long story short, Apple has been running these "Hi, I'm a Mac" ads for years where they ridicule PCs and Windows, and Microsoft has remained silent. But in this new ad campaign they targeted Macs directly, talking about the high prices and that Macs are more about aesthetics than power. Man oh man this provoked a lot of foaming at the mouth among Mac heads who went on and on for hundreds of pages yapping about viruses and PCs that break down when you look at them funny...

I'm trying to figure out what the root is here, why a new app from Props stirs up so much controversy. Is it simply the audacity of yet again releasing a new product that doesn't support VST, or is there something deeper?
It's something deeper. It's the deep frustration of Macbook owners that Record needs 50 percent of their usb ports

Yeah, except a lot of those guys aren't so much racing champions but actually mediocre drivers who buy them for the brag factor...

This is NOT what is meant by "create a new track."

Sorry but the driver is usually the critical factor.

So, I wonder what this new stretch feature in Record will do to the Rex2 format, or if that is a possible hint of what may be coming in a future device in v5? hmm? maybe? maybe not -

just thinking.. :D

But they said you can create as many new lanes as you want!

That sir is a good point. Computer-based music is a hobby for me, and I like it to be as uncomplicated as possible. Thus Reason+Record is very appealing to me. If music was my business and I needed a more complex system, then as you suggest I'd likely be far more interested in additional possibilities.

(Although I'm sure many Reason users would agree with me that you can get some decent results out of that product too).

I have the demo of Reason installed, I'm wondering if that will be enough to activate the Reason devices in Record?...

I have a sneaky feeling it will work (no proof).

Okay, let's enter the arena.

My view about this, is that if I'm going to get it, it's to be used for quick mixing for demos CDs.

Get the audio tracks files from the band/rapper/singer, bring them to this "DAW", use the modeled mixer with the EQ/COMP and make the tracks blend together quickly.

Use the master bus compressor emulation to "glue" that a little.

Do some quick quality "mastering" with a standalone suite like T-RackS 3. Done.

And that's okay, the band/rapper/singer get it's demo done, that's it.

Come back later if you have a SERIOUS project, and I'll use better tools and more time to make it shine like a commercial production ;).

Another context is in my case, the beatmaker point of view :
- I have a beat done in Reason 4
- I have some audio sampled material I recorded, chopped in a WAV editor
- I want lay it down to my beat
- Damn, Reason can't take my wav custom made sample loop
- I now use Record, to make the whole thing work together
- Cool, I can edit my Reason tracks at the same time if needed
- Quick and easy, that's the goal
- I get my instrumental track done

It's just my view, how I see me using this if I'll do it.

Now waiting for Reason 5 with a NEVE modeled mixer :hihi:...
