Equally amazing how some people have gotten so upset just because of the marketing...

...we're now into Day 5 of certain people slagging off a product that they've not seen, and that clearly isn't aimed at them anyway...

... just because the marketing and product decisions somehow offended them

Weird. :?
whos really upset here? not us who chimed in to say the product is redundant. its you Propellerhead fanboys getting up in arms at any less than stellar responses. I couldn't give a rat's ass. I am happy with my tools. :D

Just a few editing tools (stretch (which they already got the technology for in there), pitch and a few more) would have been sufficient. Like it is now you have to export and open in another editor just for minor adjustments. I know this is v1.0 and they will probably add these things later, but Props have a long development cycle so you may have to wait 1.5+ years. Does it atleast have an 'open clip in external editor' option ?
Reason is fun to play around with and I guess it will be equally fun playing around with Record. Get some editing in there and I'd buy it (them) instantly. Add vst support and I'd buy it twice :)

A no-brainer for version 1.5 would have to be a (auto-tune type) pitch correction module in the rack.

10 demerits for using the word "fanboy"! What a stupid term.

Imagine, for a second, that this was a thread about a new product which did fit one of your needs, and you were curious about. How does this thread appear then?

As a nearly unreadable 65 pages of whining about dongles, diatribes about what the product isn't, diatribes about inaccurate speculation as to what the product isn't, 47 varieties of "why would anyone want that? beaver-in-a-box supports VSTs!", and of course, fanboy slurs aimed at anyone at all frustrated with the previous 64 pages.

How hard is it to not dominate threads about software one is not interested in? Same damn thing happened when Spectrasonics released Omnisphere. 90% thread domination by people who were never likely to use the product anyway. Sure makes the forum seem less functional, IMO.

To me, Record is a $149 update to the Reason host I already own but don't use too often, partially due to the lack of audio capability. Some things seem well designed. The composite editing seems like an improvement to how I have to do it in Cubase. I think the tempo tracking is cool as hell.

I'm happy for everybody that already has workflows they're comfortable with for midi and audio. I own several hosts, and I'm still not there. Love some for some things and others for others. Like Omnisphere, this is a product which looks interesting to me at an upgrade price I can afford and don't mind paying.

Doesn't make me a fanboy, even if wading through 65 pages of griping and whining leaves me a little cranky. :D

cheers,

Alright so. I want to double check something here.

Can you use 3rd party vsts? If not. it does look great
for people who use Reason. No way in hell would it work for "me"
if I cant use my own vsts..

well the issue is that we expected something clever from the Props. Its the let down of expectations that got this thread going.
And my argument is that if you guys let us negative nancies chime in without feeling all threatened, this thread would have been much smaller
if you are going to argue against somebody's opinion on a msgboard, you can expect a counter argument, and so on. Hey at least it shows people expect greatness from the Props still :)

ps: if you are not using Reason only, you are clearly NOT a fanboy dont worry

Um... why do you feel the need to chime in, in the first place? If the product doesn't meet your expectations (how you could know that without first trying the product, I don't know!) then just leave the discussion... surely that is easy enough?

One thing no one has commented on (I don't think):

How convenient would it be to automatically have an decent EQ, compressor, and gate, per channel.. automatically.. without having to drag in any effects chains like you do have to in Live, and without having to open seperate plugin windows??

That seems like a worthy reason to want to investigate this program.

My view about this, is that if I'm going to get it, it's to be used for quick mixing for demos CDs.

Get the audio tracks files from the band/rapper/singer, bring them to this "DAW", use the modeled mixer with the EQ/COMP and make the tracks blend together quickly.

Use the master bus compressor emulation to "glue" that a little.
so, what are you going to do if the drummer was off half of the time and the snare came out sounding all wrong? Or the bass player missed several phrases and there's clicks all over the second guitar part?

Your tools are..

-a scissor
-erm.. that's it
Hum...

Well, that's a BIG problem.

Maybe I would say : come back when you have a decent recording. I don't want you to bring me THAT WONDERFUL sound, but there is a difference between being OK and being all wrong ;).

its a good question, honestly. I think this thread was almost like a live blog where people were writing stuff out in response to watching the videos and the news results for the first time. If I read about this product after it came out, I honestly wouldn't come in a thread and shit on the parade. At the same time, you can ask why do people have to chime in on the negative replies also? They can just ignore them and those people would go away. You are not helping tame the beast :)

?
almost every sequencer has an EQ automatically built into every channel

I take it you're new to these internets, then?

Fanboy is a great word, contains just the right amount of condescension to really upset fanboys.
