Seriously, I wish something like that would be available in each and every sequencer (of course the sounds should be a little better than what you get from a Sound Canvas).
When I'm in "composing mood" I really don't want to look for a certain plugin and a certain preset or so. I just want a (rather comprehensive, of course) set of various instruments loading quickly with all the required basic tweaks already being done.
Personally, I do have my own little personalized channel strip preset folder in Logic, so whenever I need some "standard" instruments (like a piano, e-piano, bass, synth bass, GM drums, a few pads, clavinets, organs, etc.) I can get there pretty quick, even without opening any browser, plugin GUI or so.

So, anyway, does that ID8 thingy load proper sounds automatically when you import SMFs? For whatever (rather unfortunate) reasons, I have to do stuff like that occasionally, and I have yet to find some decent solution on the virtual instrument market (most SMFs still sound *lightyears* ahead when being played back through my rusty Sound Canvas or Yamaha QY 70, compared to whatever virtual counterparts, such as NIs Bandstand, let alone the latter is a true CPU hog).

Didnt read all 69 pages but I visited the site.

Project seems interesting really, but what really caught my attention is a "minor" (you judge) non musical feature : The Ignition Key

You can order a new dongle key if you loose it and still keep on working with the internet temporary authorisation schema

Just one word :tu: PH

If only I could have the same "mental" security with all my Syncrosoft licences, including my main tool, Cubase .......... :?

FAIL.
+1 For sure! With me, atleast.

No 3rd party instruments or fx. How do Propellerheads expect anyone to support their Rewire? They seem to like to lock their users in and make them dependent.

Want audio in Reason? Just buy RECORD!! Need other options? New products to come!

They'll probably sell copies by the busloads to students, the same way they did with Reason. Berkley, etc. meh. Have to teach people the old way to do things. Cool flippy racks and wiggly cables - wow. I like cables, who doesn't. But, it seems a bit predatory to me. Students must be taught about cable maintenance, right?

Of course, they can do what they want with their products, but from my point of view . . . RECORD definitely isn't for me - by a long shot.

Why are we even talking (advertising) about this on this forum, if they don't support VST/VSTi/RTAS, etc?

I totally understand where you are coming from. If they would have supported VST and VSTi, I would have droppped my other DAWs in a flash. The only thing else that I would have requested was a robust notation editor. Then I would have been in heaven. Oh well.

I'm looking at this as more of a "lets get rid of the distractions" type of program. I really don't need flexibility for recording my guitar stuff; I just need an input.

thats what so many of the naysayers don't seem to get. The moment they say it doesn't have a score editor or that it can't house vst's they are not this things target market. Yet they seem oblivious to this minor detail

I believe every thread should devolve into character attacks and witch-burning. It really helps the discussion.

Not entirely true. Many of us see VSTs as our main 'instruments' and we want to 'record' them. Yes, you could play them live into record just like a real synth, but that's foregoing technology when it shouldn't be necessary to.

Enabling ReWire master (not hosting VSTs or using 3rd-party tech) would allow these 'instruments' to be sequenced and recorded in record with little effort.

You're correct though, I think, in that the majority of people here aren't the target market. It's just very strange to offer an 'SSL' master console and all the complexity that entails to people who aren't really technically minded.

I suppose it should really be put against pro-tools M-powered, as that's around the same price (slightly cheaper, including an M-Audio 2496) and has almost the same in-the-box mentality. Would that be a fair comparison ?

(As stated before, I have no problem with record and will most probably buy it, especially as an upgrade to Reason 4 - I'm just becoming as tired of the 'defenders' saying why it shouldn't do things, as I am of the 'attackers' claiming it's useless)

I never thought of that, but of course you're right. That's made me a bit more excited about Record. I do have Live and Reaper, but they've never clicked for me as much as propellerhead's products.

The idea of wrapping my few VSTs (Omnisphere/Sylenth/Firebird/StylusRMX) in savihost, and using Record to capture the output really appeals to me. Old school style, lol! I've never made music like that before, it's all been midi so looking forward to trying it out.

Maybe the tempo functions will be handy, so I can slow the whole thing down to account for my playing ;)
